president bush aquired to pay taxes?

Please try and take this question seriously. I just thought of something. If president bush can raise the prices on gas and oil, does President bush have to pay his own taxes? I mean, its only fair; he is, after all, a United States Citizen. Shouldnt he have to pay taxes like we do? I sort of knew that president bush really wasnt in charge of raising the gas prices. However, my father kept convincing me that hes the one raising the prices.

Why do libs think it is fair to keep raising taxes on the wealthy? Part 2?

In my first version of this question, the one I awarded "Best Answer" was pretty thorough and made me go back a re-read my own challenge where I wasnt quite "specific" enough...I will strive to do better on this version. First off, Id like to elaborate on my response to the one I debated with in the last question. He/she asked if someone who has worked for minimum wage half of his/her life should be happy (Ill leave it to this individual to explain his/her position better). To that, I would respond... Our country was founded with a very key principle and that is all Americans should have "the right to PURSUE happiness"! In other words, these people making minimum wage half their lives have the option of striving for a better education and learning more useful and marketable skill sets. Secondly... Contrary to popular "liberal" opinion, wages are typically driven by simple supply and demand laws. In other words, how many people are capable and willing to cook up burgers and fries at a fast food restaurant? I would dare say a lot more people that are capable and willing to do open heart surgery. How much time and effort does it take an individual to learn the trade of serving fast food? Should a fast food server (not manager) make $15 to $20 an hour? If so, do you expect Big Macs to stay priced about the same or would you be upset to see the price go up to $9 a sandwich? Heres an idea... If all these business owners are so "evil" and lacking of compassion, why dont you brilliant hard working liberals start a revolution and start your own fast food business and be the first to pay your servers $18/hr while keeping your sandwich prices down to $3 or 4$ (or less)? You libs are so critical of how poorly businesses are run but are not willing to do anything about it short of voting more libs into government (so it will get bigger and bigger) and wait on daddy government to solve all our problems. Im going to let you libs in on a little secret... The government is not the answer to our countrys problems (in fact, they have become the ultimate problem over the past couple of decades). It is the creative and entreprenueral spirit of the people when they are free to "pursue happiness". As our constitutional rights continue to be eroded and desecrated by our elected officials, the liberal media and our public school systems are teaching the masses that we are on the right track. I have had it with this out of control and power hungry government. All they are doing is carrot dangling for votes so they can increase the size of the welfare population. As as conservative, Im frustrated at the RINOs (McCain) for example who have completely caved in to the liberal cause. I hope you libs can one day wake up to reality as I did (I used to be a "heart bleeding" lib myself). I finally have come to realize that the bigger our government gets the poorer our country becomes. You have a slightly unrealistic view of capitalism and the pursuit of happiness. But it really doesnt matter in this case. You can raise taxes on a rich person and they wont feel it except in their ego. And you get lots of $$ If you raise taxes on your average American it effects their day to day life. And you get very little $$ So if you think you HAVE to raise taxes.. The choice is easy. ====================================== Sorry my friend but I have to respectfully disagree with you on this. I know liberals roll their eyes when conservatives point out the obvious when stating "it is the wealthy who creates most jobs in our country". I dare say liberals probably think the government does, but let me explain why our economy is so dependent on the wealthys ability to innovate, employ and open the door for future entrepreneurs to join in on the "American Dream"... Now stay with me here and focus on what Im saying (not what your liberal mind is already telling you what Im
Answer: I think we can all agree that life isn't fair, so to say that i "believe it's fair that the wealthy have their taxes raised" would be an incorrect statement. Now what I would settle for in all of the debate about taxes is a flat tax rate. That would make it so that everyone can stop their back and forth banter about fairness. A person who's middle class busting their behinds to put food on their table and support their family shouldn't pay more as far as percents are concerned in taxes. That's what's happening though. Let's just make it all the same. Put it at the level the average Joe pays for all, and call it a day.

Is this fair pay for watching 2 kids?

Ill try to make this short. I have 2 younger brothers, ages 7 and 3 from my mom and my step dad. Im 25 and I have 2 kids of my own with my fiance and we live on our own. The money Im paid to watch my brothers is my only income (aside from what my fiance makes at his job). My mom and step dad pay me $50 a day for an 11 hour day. My 7 year old brother is at school 7 hours out of the day so I have just one of them for 7 hours and both for the other 4 hours. Do you think $50 a day is fair pay? Keep in mind..day care centers and in home day care providers can charge that little because they watch a handful of kids and get paid for each child. For me, the $50 is all I get total because I do not watch other kids. I watch them about 3 days a week so I make about $600 a month and after I pay my car insurance and phone bill, Im left with only $480 to last me a month (Im only paid once a month). If you take $50 a day divided by 11 hours, thats only $4.54 an hour for 2 kids. The going rate for watching just one child is usually more than that! So my question is, do you think that is fair pay? Im finding it hard to make ends meet with these economic times on my income. Dont get me wrong..my fiance does his best to provide for us, but I want to have money to pay my own cell bill and car insurance and to be able to pay for my own gas and my own clothes and things like that. Is it fair for me to ask for a raise or not? I was thinking about asking them to start paying me $5 an hour when I have just my 3 year old brother, and $7 an hour when I have both of them. Thats still WAY cheap compared to the going rate for most nannies/sitters. I just thought I would add some details to your questions. I usually do provide all the food. I can either watch them at my house or go to my moms, but I usually have them come here (we live a block away from each other). And although they are my brothers, we still made an agreement that this would be my job so the fact that theyre my brothers doesnt change the fact that this is my job and my income. I thought I would also add that no, they couldnt really take them somewhere else for less because no other place would accomadate their needs. My mom gets off at different times each night. Its usually around them same time, but shes a supervisor and my step dad is a general manager of a Chipotle so if there is work to be done, they have to stay late and my schedule is different every week. I dont usually know which 3 days I watch them until Sunday evening. No other day care place would do that. They are much more strict about knowing the schedule and having the same pick up time each night.
Answer: Asking for $5 and $7 an hour seems more fair than what you are being paid now. I would ask for a raise. Start out by telling them that you are having a hard time making ends meet and then ask for it.

The ‘rich’ don’t pay their ‘fair share’? What is their ...

One of the most persistent talking points on the left is that “the rich” — and sometimes “corporations” — don’t pay their “fair share” of taxes ...

Why do people accuse you of being lazy and a welfare recipient for wanting the rich to pay their fair share?

I asked a question previously as to why some believe that the rich should be allowed to pay a lower percentage of their income in taxes than somewhat like me? I received several replys and some were not too kind. I simply stated how that under Clinton some 23 million jobs were created and he raised taxes. The middle class actually grew and minimum wage actually increased. However, under Bush...only 3 million total jobs were made. This is a matter of public record and no opinion is necessary. Bush cut taxes twice and the middle class actually shrank. In Sept. of 08 it appeared as though the economy was about to drop off a ledge. I then ask why do people really think that this policy of maintaining the Bush tax cuts is beneficial to the nation considering what we see occurring. I was then lambasted by some and called lazy and accused of being on various government programs. Now theres nothing wrong for those who need this temporary assistance but Im a worker and have been since I was 17. I pay more of a percentage in taxes than do the vast majority of the wealthy. Why? It seems as though theyve been getting the Bush tax cuts for years but they continue sending jobs overseas. Please only respond with respectful dialogue.
Answer: They yap about welfare because they have no valid argument and many have no clue what their talking about any way. They seem to be ok with paying for corporate welfare.

Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration Act?

I considering going to an attorney but I wanted to get the yahoo communitys opinion. I had been working for a company for newly six years when in Oct of last year they hired a new employee. That employee actually started in November as my team member. Her salary was almost twice mine. My salary was $74k and hers was $120k. I did not know this at the time. It became immediately evident from the day she started that I had more experience than her as it pertained to the company. However, she was older and had more work experience than I. Still, the position they trained her for would require at least a years worth of training to even function independently without me. In other words, there was going to be a massive training effort to at least get her up to speed. About a month after Obama took office, roughly the beginning of December, she was told that she would now be my manager or supervisor. I was told at the begining of the year that she was now my boss. I was also given a very small raise and it was attributed to the economy. I accepted this as many people were losing their jobs at the time. However, certain individuals were given hefty raises due to their favor with management. The latter doesnt bother me as that is how most companies are. Now fast forward to the present. I have now learned of her compensation. She has learned quite a bit since she started but I am still depended on heavily to get the job done. She is the very essence of a manager which is managing projects, vacation time, and delegating responsibilities. I still on occassion have to take the reigns of team lead to resolve crisis. With so many people losing their jobs I feel guilty about complaining, but I everyday I go in to work I feel like I have been royally screwed. I also feel like my intelligence was insulted as they moved to make her my manager knowing full well she did not rival my competency. its been so bad at times that I have had to assist her and direct her on how to be my boss and deal with situations that our team encounters. Its sickening. My question is can I sue for fair pay discrimination? I really feel like with Obama taking office and his pledge to sign the law into affect, they made her my boss so that it would ward off the potential lawsuit as well as limit any liability if I did sue. The question is do I have a case or not? Please no responses about how I should be lucky I have a job because I believe I would have felt more dignified if they had fired me. I forgot to mention that I am a male. I also forgot to mention that at the time of their decision to make her my boss, I couldnt understand it. Several other people also couldnt believe the decision as she was pretty much clueless about the job. But I will say she was favored by the CEO and came from his country. The idea of her was more than what she could actually do.
Answer: Comrade Obama did not take office until JANUARY, 2009 so whatever happened in December cannot be blamed on him. You didn't say you work in the White House so I seriously doubt you can blame your work problems on Comrade Obama. You have a problem between you, your employer and the new employee. Grow up and deal with it like an adult. If you can't find the cajones to talk to your boss's boss about the problem you see, find another employer. I am definitely NOT an Obama supporter. I only mention him above because you seem to be trying to blame him for this somehow.

Who is in favor of my simple fair tax plan?

I call it my 50/50 plan: on the first $50,000, you pay no tax. On anything over $50,000, you pay 50% tax to your state government. No other taxes will be collected by the governmment, and there are no deductions, and the government cannot raise taxes at any time for any reason, nor can it issue refunds or tax credits to any person or company or religious entity. The tax is based on your gross annual earnings from all sources, domestic or not, legal or illegal, active or passive. Your state government will then decide how much of that money to allocate for local, state, and federal funding. Any questions? See, its so simple that you have no questions! Oh yes, and with it we have the balanced budget amendment for all states and the federal government. Now, who wants to have a simple, fair, equal to all tax plan? solaran, youre a great example of the result of the American education system. Someone making $50,001 a year under the plan would pay 50 cents in tax.
Answer: I don't think the Libs want a fair tax plan. I think they want people who make a lot of money to have to pay a higher rate. They will complain that your plan is unfair since it lets the moderately rich and moderately well off keep too much of their hard earned dollars. The really rich will just send their money to Bermuda or the Caymans.

I have a couple of questions about Obama?????

First of all, I just want to say, Im 21 and this will be my first chance to vote this year so Im kinda new at the whole politics thing so I was hoping somebody would answer a couple of questions about Obama for me. According to Obamas tax plan he wants to cut taxes for 95% of the country and raise taxes for the top "Elite" 5%. So basically he saying he wants to "take from the rich and give to the poor". I may be wrong on this but if they raise the taxes on the rich, wont those people buy less stocks and invest less money into businesses that we need to keep our country going? Therefor having the reverse effect of what we need. I hear the tax raise will be for people making $250,000 a year or more. Well I was also wondering how could this effect small Business being that lots of people have small businesses that make right around $250,000 net profit a year but have to pay expenses, salaries, insurance and many other things that keep a small business going. How is that fair to raise there taxes? Ive been looking all over the internet and I finally found a list of his accomplishments. So far Im seeing that 15 laws were passed under him being senator from 1997 to 2004, which isnt horrible but is that enough experience to run our country? Also most of the laws I think are kinda irrelevant other than getting more helthcare for childern. Like protecting police from false accusations of abuse, video interrogations in death penalty cases ect., ect., ect. He spent 7 year in Senate and has no major legilation passed. So whats the deal? Why should I vote Obama? It makes no sense. He says we need change and he baggs on Mccain for being old. So why did he bring in Biden for VP, Biden has been in politics longer than Mccain. How is that change? If liberals will give me a reasonable answer to any of these questions I might consider changing my vote but until then I will use logic when I go to the polls.
Answer: There are few more things to consider in choiosing our next president otherr than taxes. What is Obama's stand on the military? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7o84PE871BE What is his position on gun control? What is his position on free enterprise? Questions about my nanny position.?

I have been a nanny now for about 6 years, I started out at 19 and I am now 25, I always had such good relations with all of my past employers, all of whom remain friends to this day. I no longer am with any of them because I had a high risk pregnancy and had to be on bed rest, which ended up working out for them as well because two of them families children started school full time, so they wouldnt have needed me any more anyhow. So in October of last year I applied and got a nanny job close by my house where I was able to bring my son with me, so they pay me a lesser amound than what I would normally charge. I am getting payed $9 an hour, I have always started off in the $15an hour range, and I had initially asked for $10. They said they would be willing to give me a raise after 6 months, which hasnt happened, that is not really my complaint. When I started their son was 3 months and mine was 7 months, a handful, but nothing I am not able to handle, its all about routine! My hours are 8:30am-5:30pm M-F except on Wendsdays. They have always been really good about paying me when they cancel days or only have me half of the day. Lately though, they have been having a huge issue with my payments. For example, today their son was sick (the kids have both been sick on and off, the last 3 weeks) and she took him to the doctor and told me I could have the rest of the day off. When she asked for my hours I told her the amount and she said, "But you only are working until 12:30" and I replied, "Yes, but I expected to work a full day" she said that she doesnt think that is fair, paid me the amount I asked anyhow and left. This is not the only issue I have had. They first told me I could park in their garage if I ever drive, I usually take the bus to work since we live so close to eachother, then they told me I couldnt. No big deal. One day I ended up driving, and it just so happened that same day is when they had changed the parking meters to 25 cents every 15 mins, I only brought quarters for them being an hour each, so I asked to borrow some. The dad was like, "No problem! Take whatever you need!". Then, came back a half hour late and told me, "You know, I was talking to my wife and we would like to treat this as much as a job as possible, and I cant ask my boss to pay for my parking, so I dont think it is fair that you ask us to pay for yours", I said, "If you really thought I was asking to pay for my parking you are mistaken, I just was in a bind and ask to borrow some. And if you want to treat it like a job, I am not charging you for every minute you are late coming home." (they are late 15-30 minutes EVERY day almost and sometimes I will wait until they take their dog out to leave as well). He didnt say much except that he knows and that I should charge them for every minute. Which I do not do still, I am a fair person. On top of all this, I always go above and beyond what I am really expected to do. I have never been expected to clean anyones house, but tidy up the kids messes and my own is obvious. I do THEIR dishes, sometimes I will do some of THEIR laundry and clean THEIR bathroom and kitchen. I am feeling very taken advantage of right now. Plus, the dad has become a real nightmare, screaming at his wife in front of me and my son, my son is 1 now and not used to people screaming at eachother, so it really frightened him and he started to cry, when he did, the dad said, "I am sick of all this damn crying!!!!" I said nothing, but got my check and left. Point being: I want to get paid for the days they cancel on me and the days I am let go early, I always have with other jobs and I WAS with this one as well, but they obviously are feeling different about what they were doing to what they want to do now. Do you think this is fair? Thank you all for taking the time to read this, I know it was long. I have been looking into a Nanny Contract and am going to suggest it on Monday. You are right, I do need to be very cautious with how I state my case to them, I do want and need to keep this job, at least until I can find a new one. I think the best thing to do is to go over everything that is bothering both parties and try to come to the best understanding and agreement that we can. The daily fee may work out best for both of us. That way I feel that we are both being fair with eachother, but we will see what they think. My only thing with an hourly "real" job is that if you are scheduled to work 8:30-5:30 every day, you will typically work that schedule, unless there is some drastic reason for not. Plus, every other job I have had has handled it this way, and like I said, so did they, but as of lately they have clearly been having issues with not wanting it to be this way anymore. If you are in Chicago, HIRE ME! I really am a great nanny ;)
Answer: It sounds like a really negative work environment for you and your son. Both suggestions of looking for a new employer or starting a home daycare business are good ones, but both will take time to set up. Right now you need to do something to better your situation, and I think the best thing would be a Nanny Contract. You can find these by searching online. Make sure whatever you find online covers all the details you are concerned about and leaves room for compromise on both of your parts. Set up a meeting with your employers (both parents), stay very professional, and just tell them that you want to avoid conflicts by signing a Nanny Contract. Go over the details of your work day, overtime, and anything else that has caused conflict between you all. Once you agree, start keeping track of your hours, so that you can be paid for every minute you work, and don't clean anything beyond the mess the kids make while in your care. I know this may be hard to shift gears and be so strict and business-like, but it will make your working life much easier. It's hard to measure you scrubbing the bathroom against borrowing a few quarters to pay the meter, unless the value of those things is written in a contract.

Is this a violation of the Fair Pay Act...?

Fair Pay Act - The Equal Pay Act requires that men and women be given equal pay for equal work in the same establishment. The jobs need not be identical, but they must be substantially equal. It is job content, not job titles, that determines whether jobs are substantially equal. A female employed as a marketing analyst was hired to perform secondary research. The duties of her job now include conducting both secondary and primary research. At present she is responsible for the largest client held by her employer. Three months ago a senior positon opened in her department. The companies job description for the senior position did not include doing secondary research, only primary. The manager in charge of the female refused to allow her to apply for the senior position, although he did acknowlege she was performing the same duties. The company (manager) interviewed three candidates for the senioir position. The company hired the only male candidate interviewed. The male and female both hold bachelors of Science in Marketing. The male has one year more of research experience than the female, but in a different industry. The female in question has the experience, ability, education and training to perform the same role as her male counterpart. The male does not have the experience or training to complete the duties for which he was hired. The female holds greater responsibility, with working on the largest clients account. The males salary is greater than the females by almost twenty-five thousand. Secondary research has been added to the responsibilities of the senior position, only after the female pointed this unfairness out to her manager. The manager has stated this female does perform the duties of a senior analyst. But is unable to promote her, or raise her pay. On the last performance review given to this female, the only area she needed to work on was business maturity. Which according to the manager is that she should realize he is doing everything he can to promote and or raise her pay. The company has promoted other woman in different departments with less experience than this female.

Should the rich start paying their fair share, or should we tax the poor more as Republicans suggest?

Rep. Michelle Bachmann Her main goal is to get tax rates down with a broad-based income tax that everyone pays and that “gets rid of all the deductions.” A system in which 47% of Americans don’t pay any tax is ruinous for a democracy, she says, “because there is no tie to the government benefits that people demand. I think everyone should have to pay something.” Gov. Rick Perry “We’re dismayed at the injustice that nearly half of all Americans don’t even pay any income tax. And you know the liberals out there are saying that we need to pay more.” An injustice I tell ya!!!! And notice the "we" Gov. Perry identifies with - the wealthy folks that liberals want to tax more. Mitt Romney At an appearance at the Iowa State Fair today, Mitt Romney was asked whether he would support raising the income cap on Social Security taxes (currently set at $106,800) as a way to help make the system fiscally sound. Romney responded: “You know, there was a time in this country that we didn’t celebrate attacking people based on their success and when we didn’t go after people because they were successful.”... The question itself didn’t “celebrate attacking people based on their success,” but the former Massachusetts governor quickly twisted it into that shape. Later in his response in what became a heated exchange, Romney claimed that 50 percent of Americans don’t pay federal income taxes.

I need info about fair pay.?

I posted a similar question a couple of months, but didnt get many responses. Im asking again as I also have new info. This was my original question: Ive read a bit about it, but most of what Ive read is in regard to men & women getting equal pay for doing the same job with the same requirements and such. I would like info about women getting the same rate of pay as other women doing the same job w/ same qualifications & such. And also how can I use these laws so that I can get the salary that I an owed, because my job is screwing me right now. I work as a CAD (computer aided design) Artist for a fashion company. Three of my co-workers (1 past 2 present) make more than me for doing the same job. (coincidently we all went to the same school & have the same degree) Ive talked to my boss about raising my salary (without bringing up my knowledge of others salaries) based on my work ethics & contributions to the company. The big boss listens to what Im saying, but promises nothing, and as a result nothing happens. This is the new info I have. One of my co-workers just got a review on Fiday 7 got $2,000 more a year. Now shes getting $7,500 more a year to do the same job as me. Ive been there for a year & a half. When I got my year end reveiw in December Id been there for a year & I only got a $1,500 raise and the other girl got $2,000 and she was already making $5,000 more a year than me. Im a hard worker, I do what Im told and I come in on time, Ive found countless ways to save time & improve efficiency and its gone totally un-noticed. In addition another girl in my office makes $13,500 more a year than I am. How can I handle this situation, I am owed a raise, but dont what else to do to get it. How do I let the big boss know that I know whtas going on without saying it straight to his face? michr - you made some good points. Maybe that is why I so find no info on the web about this. I didnt want to make it a race issue, because that isnt who I am as a person, and my race is not my motivation. Anyways, All of us have been there for less than 3 years. The girl making $7,500 more than me, has been with the company a bit longer than me, but she got transferred to our dept. last summer.(it wasnt a promotion, she was simply looking to broaden her career expiriences and we needed more people) Ive been in the Art Dept. Longer than her. The other girl who is making $13,500 more than me got fired last summer and the girl who filled her position was a moron (she was also making more than me) so she got fired and the first girl got hired back at substantially more, to do the same job. I wouldnt make such an issue out of this but Im pissed cause if I get another crap raise in Dec. Ill have been there 2 years & Ill still be making lass than $30K a year - Its total BS! I did ask the big boss what I coul do and he said to keep on doing what I was doing. He gave me a glowing review, just a sh*tty raise & I dont get it. We all started at the same salary! Also, this is everybodys first job out of college. None of as had any previous expirience, other than intership. Thanks Chuck! Your advice is really good. :o) I didnt want to look for a new job cause I like this one & the people I work with. Also we get good vacation & benefits. :o) I actually get along very well with everyone in my office. We are all good friends and spend with each other outside of work on the weekends & such. Stay late - Are you kidding me? They are all flying out the door at like 5:23! And no, they do not take on extra assignments - Yes, I am certain of that. they are not better employees. they even admit that they do not know why I am getting screwed. We dont even have an official boss anymore. When I was first hired we did, but she left last summer and her position has yet to be filled. Now we only have the big boss that was above her. Its also worth mentioning that everyone else is looking for other jobs, because they dont think they are getting as much as they should. Even the girl who just got an extra reveiw & raise says she still isnt happy and shes going to continue to seek employment elsewhere. I didnt post this question, so that people could *try* and flaws in my work & ethics that would explain the pay discrepancy. I posted the question to get help as to what to do & how to handle the situation.
Answer: What the other people say here is correct. I'll add that in your position that you may need to find another job. Circumstances like yours are almost always a sign that somebody doesn't like you on a personal level. Your work is okay, so they aren't going to fire you, but they'll be passive-aggressive by not paying you as much as others. You say you have good reviews. Use them as proof as you go out and start looking for a new job. If you get an offer, you can use that as leverage with your old employer, if you really want to stay there. If you think your lack of pay increases is due to racial or ethnic issues, you should contact your local EEOC office. Also, do take a hard look at yourself and your attitude and your personality. Are you sure you aren't being abrasive to others? Can you think of anybody, anytime saying anything? Is there anybody at work you can safely ask? Good luck!

do you think the junk food industry should pay their fair share like the tobacco industry? and would you chose?

between a high cost junk food addict who cost more to you or someone who try and stay healthy ? and what do you think of my answer to a similar question? it was.. So when Obama raises corporate taxes, will those corporations pass on that cost to small business owners? I mean wont the cost for whole sale goods go up...? and therefore hurt the consumer. Is this Obamas version of Tricke Down Economics and my answer was... you mean like the tobacco industry, so? whats wrong with that,? conservatives talk about personal responsibility but that never happens and the taxpayer always foots the bill like smokers and their health problems always clogging up the emergency rooms so the liberal lawyers sue them and the liberal politicians tax them so they have to pay for it and not the taxpayers. sort of like the health care industry making a certain group of high risk clients pay a higher premium. so that those that try and stay healthy get lower cost insurance. so that those that smoke pass it on to their customer/client but so what? as long as they pay for it first and and i can chose between a nonsmoker with lower cost and the high cost smoker. in Elections sections http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Aqhjm0L9XSywUnVo7uiwu.vsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20081020184048AAlCraD&show=7#profile-info-R9i9EAeoaa
Answer: First of all, corporate taxes aren't all that high as it is because there are TONS of loopholes. I mean, the write-offs alone are astounding. My parents own a small business and they were able to write off 40% of the cost of a high line SUV because there is a provision in my state legislature that lets business owners do that. So raising corporate taxes doesn't hurt nearly as much as raising the taxes on an individual. THat that vein, it is not trickle down at all. Trickle down was Reagan. Consider this a just distribution of the burden. And about the cost of suppliers going up because of higher corporate taxes, you have to consider all aspects. Let's say businesses do increase the cost of goods because of higher input taxes. Well, the consumers (individual tax payers) are either unaffected or possibly at more of an advantage because of the taxes they WON'T be charged due to businesses taking a larger piece of the tax burden. That's what people mean by distribution. Somehow, this translates to "radical socialism" and taking your "hard earned money and giving it away to the lazy and undeserving." Honestly, I would be pissed off if my party were telling me lies about a program that would actually benefit me as a consumer.

How to answer current salary questions?

Im in the process of applying for other jobs, since I am grossly underpaid where I currently work. I have an interview with a placement agency, and their standard application has a salary history spot on it. I dont want to give my current salary. First of all, I don;t see how its relevant. Secondly, I work in a field where everyone knows everyone else, and I dont think its fair to my current employer to disclose how much they pay their employees. Is there any way I can handle this on the application without raising eyebrows? In this case, it is a placement agency. I have actually already discussed salary ranges with the agent, and she told me that the salary for the position Im interested in fit that range, so thats not an issue. Its a standard application that the agency gives out, and it asks for employment history, dates worked, and salary history. *Thats* the part that gets me. I dont feel that its very professional to be blabbing my current salary to people in the same industry (which is where my information would end up). I dont want to lie, I just dont feel that its necessary or professional to be giving out that info. Thanks for all of the answers so far!
Answer: You can go ahead and fudge the salary part a little bit. First off - it is against the law for a potential employer to call your old employer and ask what your salary was. They know this and will not ask. So go ahead and lie a little to make it look like you're making more. That's the only way to get the job you really want. As long as you have the skills - no harm done. good luck with the job search

What is paying your fair share?

Why are the wealthy labeled with and evil stamp, I mean obviously most people that are wealthy have worked hard to create their prosperity and are already taxed more than anyone. "they need to pay their fair share" is all I hear, but the top 1% of americans pay 50% of the federal income tax revenue and 50% of Americans dont pay federal income taxes. The top tax bracket is already 35%. So what Im wondering is what percentage should the top bracket be raised to, "to make it fair" And why is it fair to tax those that make more unporprtionally more. Wouldnt it be more fair to have people be taxed at a proportionally less or more amount based on their income rather than having a stair step system where higher incomes are taxed at greater and greater percentages. Please answer all parts of this question Alright so far were 0 for 1 answering all parts of the question
Answer: This is the old cry for a "flat tax" everyone pays a fair % of their income and no refunds, no gripping, no tax forms. Kick 80% of the IRS out of business, kick all the TV pundits off the air who whine about un-fair taxes and let them work for a living. Put a large % of the tax advisers and tax preparers out of work also. Take away the stupid write offs that allow business to run under a "false" math idea that the tax paying family can not use or abuse.

I am a nanny and need some advice on how to ask for a pay raise and more respect! Can you help? *Long post*!?

I have been with my current family, who have 7 year old twins, for two years. I am generally happy with my job, I love the kids and get along fine with the parents. However, for a while now I have felt taken advantage of and am not sure how to handle it. Obviously I started when the kids were 5 and in kindergarten and my job was to play with them and keep them happy and safe. I also come several hours before school is out to do laundry, straighten up the house and run errands. As they have gotten older my responsibilities have increased, including helping them with their hefty load of homework and getting them to their various activities and of course acting as a parent during the time I am with them. They are an extremely busy family and it can be very stressful to handle all the things I have to do in the time I am there. I tend to doubt myself with many things but I am confident that I do a very thorough job and make their lives easier. I feel I go above and beyond, doing things that I am not asked to do and that have now become the norm. So, to get to the point, after two years I feel very unappreciated for all I do. The parents own a very successful business, work hard, and they have a lot to show for it. However, I have not been given a raise during this time. I work part time and I have no benefits at all, including no sick days or time off. In the two years I have been with them, I have called out 4 or 5 days tops, and only when I was very ill. Last week I worked with a very bad cold (which I caught from them) and an ear infection. I was told that day that they would be having an event at the house that night and I just needed to "help out" and keep an eye on the kids while there was a presentation for the summer camp they go to and which the parents support. The kids would be mingling and learning about the camp. I was told this would be about 45 minutes at the very most. Well, like most times, this was an understatement, and I ended up entertaining and watching 6 of the children attending (including a 2 year old and a 4 year old) plus my two for over two hours. There was no prior notice or asking if that would be ok with me, and no extra pay. I was VERY upset about that and came home angry and it has been bothering me all weekend and kept me up tonight because I am dreading even going to work tomorrow and putting on my happy face. I frequently help them out at the last minute, even canceling appointments so I can be there for them. When they tell me what time they will be home, they routinely come home 1-2 hours after that, so often that I normally just expect to stay until at least that time. I have stayed overnight on many occasions (with notice), sometimes for 2-3 days at a time. So that is the situation in a nutshell. I know this post is long but I wanted to give a thorough explanation of what I am asking about. Here are my questions: 1. I started at $12/hr (this is an affluent area outside a large city) and as I said this has not increased. Considering the familys situation and the time I have been there, what should I expect to be paid now after two years? 2. I am only given $35 dollars for an overnight (paid till 9pm and not again until 6am). I think this is ridiculous, even insulting. I know for a fact that their backup person who was the childrens night nurse as babies is paid $25/hr for the entire time she is there. What is a FAIR price for an overnight? I feel that I should be paid hourly. I would much rather be at home and why should I get paid less for being there longer? 3. How do I bring all my frustrations up? I know I need to talk to them about how I feel and what I would like to be paid but I have never done this before and get extremely nervous even thinking about it but I am so unhappy and it gets worse everyday. Like I said, after the incident last week I am dreading just going today and having to see them because I am so mad. 4. Kind of rhetorical, but shouldnt they want to keep me happy? They completely depend on me and they would be sh*t out of luck if I quit. It would be extremely difficult to find someone as flexible as I am, who is so willing to help, and who they can trust. Thanks so much for reading, I really appreciate it. Please only answer if you have something constructive to say. Again, I am sorry this was so long but I really need advice and wanted to give an accurate picture of the whole situation. I really am counting on the good advice I know you guys have - parents and other nannies both. Thanks again. Just a thank you to everyone who has posted so far. Your responses have given me a bit of courage that Im not asking for too much! I appreciate you taking the time to read and respond to my post. Please keep the advice coming!!
Answer: You want a raise. Whether your performance review is around the corner or you've taken on new responsibilities over the past few months, chances are the thought of asking for a raise makes you nervous. "Even the strongest person becomes mush when the topic turns to raises," says Sharon Koss, a principal with Seattle-based human resources and compensation consulting firm Koss Management Consulting. "Just remember that your boss will also be uncomfortable talking about it with you." Planning is the key to effectively asking for a raise. Long before you even head to the negotiation table, you should be laying the groundwork for a bigger paycheck. Leverage Your Skills: "You could be the organization's PowerPoint guru or possess some skill that everyone comes to you for help with," Koss says. Increase Your Visibility: Volunteer for projects or committees outside of your scope of work, she says. "What you are effectively doing is running a marketing campaign for yourself. You want to make sure you've got visibility with people other than your boss." Keep an Accomplishment Log: Keep complimentary letters from customers or managers, note extra projects you take on, when you stay late at the office, classes you take, new skills you've acquired and any other positive accomplishments you achieve. Go for Gold A performance review is a good opportunity to see if you're on a scheduled raise system. Any time you've taken on new roles but the company never coughed up extra compensation can be an icebreaker. Set up a private meeting with your boss to approach the topic. Your job is to sell your boss on your achievements. To help you do this, take your achievement log and write out a script before the meeting. "A script will help you feel comfortable that you can objectively prove your worth to the organization," Koss says. However, companies often have policies that dictate specific raises at certain times. "If a company's policy is to give annual raises, it's hard to get an exception to the rule," says Koss. "Usually decisions come from senior management, and your boss won't have any latitude to go outside the company's policy." Less Than Desirable If you do get a raise but it's much lower than what you expected, take a step back and wait a couple of days to gain objectivity. "The average person usually can't step aside from his or her emotions," says Koss. "Also, your manager may go on the defensive if you ask for a larger raise during your review." Approach your boss after the review and ask for a follow-up meeting. Consider these tips: Have an Amount in Mind: "If your manager asks you what raise you have in mind, you don't want to gasp and go blank," Koss says. Be Reasonable: "If you were offered a 3 percent raise, you can't ask for 7 percent -- it just won't happen," she says. Use an "I" Message: "If you got a 3 percent raise but want a 5 percent raise, say, 'I've accomplished XYZ, I possess XYZ skills, I put in extra time at the office and I'm a bit disappointed with the raise,'" says Koss. "Be sure to use an 'I' message rather than a 'you' message. It sounds less accusatory." Don't Threaten to Leave: Threats work against you, because they can put you on the slow track for in-house career opportunities. "It also may put you on top of the layoff list," warns Koss. Be Professional: Don't tell your boss that you heard another coworker received a higher raise than you. "Talking about what someone else received really tends to turn a boss off," Koss says. If You Still Get Turned Down? "I'd nicely ask why," Koss suggests. "You deserve an explanation." Ask for a Follow-Up: If the reason is financial on the company's end, ask your boss to touch base in six months. "But if you didn't get a higher raise because of your attendance or lack of skills, ask your boss if he'll reconsider things in six months, after you've improved in those areas," says Koss.

Please explain why the rich must pay higher taxes?

Dear Liberals, I have a question that puzzles me and Id like some of your input as I, a fiscal conservative, cant grasp the justification for increasing taxes on the rich(higher than they are now). These "Occupy Wall Street" protesters are unnerving me a bit with their chants of "tax the rich" and "arrest the rich!" This just strikes me as a Liberal "Tea Party": unorganized, unregulated, and easily discredited. I realize that its easy for them to advocate raising taxes that dont affect them so they can get more benefits, and I feel easily enticed too. However, I dont see the logic of it very well. When I ask my Liberal colleagues about these issues, all they do is ramble about the "corrupt Republicans" and how Bush "ruined the country" while the Democrats where trying to "fix the mess." The only definitive answer they gave me was that the rich werent paying "their fair share" and needed to be taxed more. Ive also been told that Americas economy boomed when we had higher taxes on the rich, and bringing taxes back up will bring our jobs back. My question is twofold: What is the "fair share" that the rich need to pay, and how does the economy boom through higher taxes? Seeing that the rich already pay more in taxes than the rest of us, and that most of them are self-made(Gates, Jobs, and Buffett to name a few) shouldnt they get some sort of reward for their hard work? And how does taking money out of the economy through taxes increase prosperity? Considering that the Rich are the movers and shakers of the economy, wouldnt they be enticed to leave, let along spend less? Dont get me wrong: I support a flat tax with the same rate for everyone, but why should the rich be forced to pay a higher rate because they have more to pay?
Answer: .... Okay. The rich have been feeding of the poor forever. The burdens of this country should not be set on the poor. My parents and sister survive on less than $35,000 a year before taxes. The rich complain if they don't make another 100K. They have reaped the benefits more than anyone else in this country, so they have to pay the price for the extra benefits that they want.
