CRITICS NOTEBOOK; Imagining Housing For Today
Bronx Park East opened last year opposite the New York Botanical Garden. It consists of a five-story brick pavilion with triple-height windows facing the street, and a seven-story wing for 68 small studio apartments. A good neighbor, is how its designer, Jonathan Kirschenfeld, described the buildings look. Serious architecture is another way - Bronx Park East, a single-room occupancy residence designed for housing tenants who had been homeless, shows benefits of changing city zoning laws and regulations that dictate building construction; such innovation could transform how New Yorkers live in the future. How is this elegy I wrote?
Elegy for the Kissing Carrion
I was struck by an idea so bizarre and so sick that I vowed to take it to my grave without ever giving it voice. And yet that hideous thought grew in my diseased brain like a canker, an abscess, a mole of birth, for which I am not guilty. Now I must pour my contagion into the unsuspecting ear of Earth.
The Ghost walked the night in search of treasure in the womb of earth. He usurped the sovereignty of reason of his son and namesake until, at last, that dutiful son brought him into the bride-bed and grave of filial fidelity, Ophelia, and her chaste treasure in the womb of earth.
For thirty years, the son had spun in dizzying orbit, glowing with the bloody borrowed sheen of his warlike father. He cursed his mother, imperial jointress to this warlike state and breeder of sinners, for ever giving him birth. On the very day his mother had ejected him from her womb into the raw air, his father had vanquished a man into the womb of earth, and won a piece of dirt scarcely big enough for the new gravedigger to bury the dead. To that graveyard, the son fell heir. He was doomed to walk in the air, into his gravid grave. How pregnant his replies were.
Let not your daughter walk in the sun. But her father kept her from the son and kept her for the sun-god Hyperion and she, that god-kissing carrion, did breed maggots in the womb of earth. She let her father tell her what to think and let her brother keep the key to her memory. Her father went round and became the wheel, the knave of majestic Fortunes wheel, down, down in the secret parts of strumpet Fortune, Ophelias chaste treasure in the womb of earth.
His mother did think to strew her marriage-bed, and indeed she did, her marriage-bed in the womb of earth. Into that final chamber, she entered a virgin, nevermore to depart, virgin or not. But whose grave and marriage-bed was it? The daughter who had once sucked the honey of the sons music vows? The son and heir who had leaped into his inheritance? Or his pompous father who had been licked by the candied tongue of her father, who had gone down, down with pregnant hinges of the knee into the secret parts of strumpet Fortune, Ophelias chaste treasure in the womb of earth.

Last night I posted this in "Theater & Acting" with the question "Would anybody like to perform this monologue I wrote." It was removed for a "violation." I wasnt told why it was a violation. Is it against the rules to ask somebody to perform a monologue you wrote? Maybe the violation was based on "offensive content." But anybody who recognizes the source of most of the phrases and ideas in this Elegy will see the absurdity of that. Is Thomas Bowdler alive and well and working for Yahoo?
Thanks, Burberry Niche.

FOR the last decade Anthony Santos, the lead singer of the bachata group Aventura, has been something of a secret hidden in plain sight. Though Aventura regularly fills Madison Square Garden and other arenas around the country and sells millions of records, Mr. Santos, known to his Latino fans as Romeo, has remained pretty much anonymous outside - Aventura lead singer Anthony Santos, known as Romeo, is set to release his first solo CD, which is a departure from his bachata style; album features collaborations and experiments with other genres, but is still firmly planted in his roots; Santos, unlike other breakout Latin artists, insists most of his songs be sung in Spanish or Spanglish. Bullet Train Project Faces Cries of Boondoggle, but California Pushes Ahead
SACRAMENTO -- Across the country, the era of ambitious public works projects seems to be over. Governments are shelving or rejecting plans for highways, railroads and big buildings under the weight of collapsing revenues and voters resistance. But not California. With a brashness and ambition that evoke a California of a generation ago, state - California Gov Jerry Brown and other state leaders have rallied around a plan to build a 520-mile high-speed rail line from Los Angeles to San Francisco, despite facing seemingly insurmountable political and fiscal obstacles; critics have denounced project as waste. I came home and found my beloved Husky/Wolf hybrid of 12 yrs dead and ripped up by two of my other dogs...why?
I once witnessed my Husky/Wolf hybrid almost kill her mother when she was old and had cancer--she survived for another year before finally showing me she couldnt go on any longer. I now have found her daughter, some ten years later, all strung out along my fence with heavily trodden snow and lots of blood where my 9yo Great Dane bitch and my rescued 6yo English Mastiff had killed her--she was a really good fighter, but her aged body wouldnt do what she needed it to do and she finally succumbed to the two attackers. I have one more older Great Dane who has Wobbler Syndrome and she has holes in her as well, but is slow to make it down stairs where the dog door is to the outside. There was no food, or anything to fight over--the only thing I did differently was to liberate some stuffed toys from the top of one of the book cases the night before--so there were lots of stuffed toys on the floor. The rescue Mastiff was bounced around the lower 48 for a while, then brought up to Wasilla and had been squirting out puppies every time she went into heat--I became aware of her plight and she was so shy at first, yet kept reaching out to me when I was there (hanging out with her owner; an acquaintance/used to be friend of mine--I was watching his dogs for a while). Shiloh was always the one that would come to me, then run off if I even moved to wipe my face--I felt sorry for her and decided to give her a good home. Since then, she went from hardly any coat at all, and black with puppy mill grossness to an incredibly healthy female with a huge heart for me as well as those whom I show her are okay. She has become the protector of the house..I am the only human here, and there are four dogs--the Husky/Wolf , Tanker, 12, a rescue Great Dane 8, a show Dane 9, and Shiloh, the Mastiff,6. I knew that there was a bit of tension between the two, but tTanker would always defer to Shiloh when it came to the bed and other stuff, while Shiloh would defer to Tankier when it came to a toy, or being first to get a treat--they seemed to have it all worked out splendidly and got along fine for a year and a half before this happened. I am really good at being in tune with my dogs and they never gave me any indication that this was brewing at all. It is that time of year when the sun begins to feel like California, yet it is still frigid at night that spawned this? There is always a big leap in suicide, homicide, murder rates up here around March, April, and May...it is when the body wakes up and the mind has been hibernating for the winter--now you have energy and find out that you are depressed and can actually do something about it. I have had three of the four (minus the mastiff) get into a gang fight while being kept at another persons house around the same time of year, a few years ago. I moved my dogs there and used the remaining two kennel runs for them--split them up two by two...one morning I let them all out into the big yard only to find all four fighting horribly. It didnt seem to matter which one fought with who, they would break up when I hit them with ammonia but go find another partner and start another fight. I finally picked away one at a time...that was in late March, or around the same time of year as now. I cannot bare to see my nine year old Great Dane as dainty as she seems, nor can I bare to see my rescued Mastiff who now is proudly sporting a healthy new coat and has a small roll of fat on her from Innova dog food; they are outside and I blocked the dog door. Single digit temps and only the two of them on snow or cement-their choice for the night...they can snuggle up together--it makes me feel better knowing that they have to put up with some misery since my beloved Tanktank is in a plastic bag all frozen in the back of my truck out there as well. It makes me sick! I nourished and loved all of my dogs and I know they have no tolerance for weakness within the pack, but they all knew where they belonged...could it be that the Mastiff waited for me to leave before confronting Tanker for whatever reason? Why did the two dogs have blood covering them--obviously ganged up on her--theres a lot of very disturbed ground, about ten feet long where Tanker finally was cornered and brought down then brutally killed-she went out fighting to the death and was only able to slash the two other dogs a few times...a couple deep puncture wounds around the head on the Mastiff and a shredded ear on the Dane--the rest is all Tankers gut pile and one huge rip along her neck with jellied blood--her face was frozen into a snarl. Tank was defiant and baring her fangs to the end! If I were only home!!!! Can I still love the other two dogs after this? I almost shot them both already, but couldnt since I have loved them for so long--does two or three deaths avenge the one? Will the Mastiff soon decide to attack and kill my eight year old Dane with Wobblers Syndrome next time, or was she simply just ta
Answer: "Holy great wall of text, Batman".
That is too difficult to read without paragraphs. I didn't get very far into your question.
From what I gather your dogs have fought before so you should not have given them the opportunity to fight again. You went out and left the dogs together when they should have been separated to keep them safe. You know they fight so why did you put them in this position?

Can i get into any branch of the military with a felony?
Im 20 years old now. A year and a half ago i was convicted of receiving stolen property. The value was about 1,200 dollars and that is the amount of my fine that im paying off right now. I didnt receive any jail time but instead the courts placed me on 6 months of ARD probation. They explained to me after my ARD is complete and the fine is payed off my charge will be expunged, but i do realize the government and military can look it up. When i graduated high school i went to college for a year but having no parents makes it hard to pay for school. I did receive a lot of help from the gov for school but there was still a couple thousand i couldnt come up with due to me being responsible for a lot more bills then most college students. This brings me to the military. It is something that has peaked my interest for awhile. I would like nothing more than to get in. I can not stress that enough because it would be a huge leap into a postive direction. The national guard told me they have a grace period to waver my felony to get in which is a year. not a year from the conviction. The year starts when i finish paying off my fine. I was really interested in the navy. The recruiter i spoke to was highly impressed with my testing skills and said i could do anything in the navy, he even went on to explain such jobs as the nuclear field. I do understand that the nuc field is top secret and with my record I would not be aproved for that, but the navy did give me a little hope by telling me when i pay off my fine I can get in and that the waiver would only take a couple weeks. The thing that is concerning me is that this recruiter seems kind of new and it seems like he might not know the exact circumstances of this situation or may be holding some info back from me. As much as I want to believe him I do know that having any kind of felony is a big deal. can i trust what he is saying? even if it turns out they deny my entry and in the end I turn to the national guard, the grace period they told me is a year. Im worried I would spend the whole year in anticipation to go in and when the time is up they will deny me to, which means I wouldve waisted another year that i could have spent trying my hardest to put myself back in school. Any advice or suggestions?
Answer: Not reading that wall of text without paragraphs, so I'll just answer your topic question.
You can enter the military with a felony, but it depends on what it was, when, and then you need a waiver.

New Preamble to the Australian Constitution?
WE, the People of the broad, brown land of Oz, wish to be recognized as a free nation of blokes, sheilas and the occasional trannie.
We come from many lands (although a few too many of us come from New Zealand) and, although we live in the best little country in the world, we reserve the right to bitch and moan about it whenever we bloody like.
We are One Nation but were divided into many States.
First, theres Victoria, named after a queen who didnt believe in lesbians. Victoria is the realm of Mossimo turtlenecks, cafe latte and grand final day. Its capital is Melbourne, whose chief marketing pitch is that its "livable".
Next, theres NSW. It is the realm of pastel shorts, macchiato with sugar, thin books read quickly and millions of dancing gay-boys. Its mascots are Bondi lifesavers who pull their Speedos up their cracks to keep the left and right sides of their brains separate.
Down south we have Tasmania, a State based on the notion that the family that bonks together stays together. In Tassie, everyone gets an extra chromosome at conception. Maps of the State bring smiles to the sternest faces.
South Australia is the province of half-decent reds, a festival of foreigners and bizarre axe murders. They had the Grand Prix, but lost it when the views of Adelaide sent the Formula One drivers to sleep at the wheel.
Western Australia is too far from anywhere to be relevant in this document.
The Northern Territory is the red heart of our land. Outback plains, sheep stations, kangaroos, jackaroos, emus, Ulurus and dusty kids with big smiles. Although the Territory is the centrepiece of our national culture, few of us live there and the rest prefer to fly over it on our way to Bali.
And theres Queensland. While any mention of God seems silly in a document defining a nation of half-arsed agnostics, it is worth noting that God probably made Queensland. Why he filled it with dickheads remains a mystery.
We, the Lullaby League of Oz, are united, primarily by the Pacific Highway, whose treacherous twists and turns kill more of us each year than die by murder.
We are united in our lust for international recognition, so desperate for praise we leap in joy when a ragtag gaggle of corrupt IOC officials tells us Sydney is better than Beijing.
We are united by a democracy so flawed that a political party, albeit a redneck gun-toting one, can get a million votes and still not win one seat in Federal Parliament. Desirable, sure. But fair? Not when you consider Brian Harradine can get 24,000 votes and runs the bloody country. Not that were whingeing.
Weve chucked out the concept of "fair go" in the downsized 90s. Instead, we want to make "no worries" our national phrase.
We love sport so much our newsreaders can read the death toll from a sailing race and still tell us whos winning, in the same breath.
We treasure our politicians, who talk about listening with such persistence its hard to get a word in. We tolerate our Prime Minister, who is not only short but a Methodist, hanging offences in decent countries. And we like watching Parliament on TV because Natasha Stott Despoja is a total spunkrat.
We, the wicked witches of the land of Oz, want to make it clear this continent is ours and always has been. Mind you, Liberal Party polling shows that there were some people here before Captain Cook so we should address the issue once and for all.
While possession is nine-tenths of the law, our ancestors were fortunate enough to discover that genocide, cultural extinguishment, baby theft and flour poisoning make up the other tenth.
So Oz is now ours and thats that. Our midget Methodist master says we have no reason to feel sorry for killing more Aborigines per capita than the Nazis did Jews and Liberal Party polling says were OK with that.
Why dont we say sorry? In the words of our PM - because, because, because, because, because. Now, can we just drop the whole thing before the Olympics start?
Phew, with that nasty bit out of the way, we the Brain, the Heart and the Nerve of Oz, want the world to know we have the biggest rock, the tastiest pies and the worst-dressed Olympians in the known universe.
We dont know much about art but we know we hate the people who make it. We shoot, we vote. We are girt by sea and pissed by lunchtime. And even though we might seem a racist, closed-minded, sports-obsessed little People, at least were better than the Kiwis.
Now bugger off, were sleeping.
Answer: Take me Tasmania, sound like a perfect place for me.

My shyness is getting ridiculous...?
There are two things I think you should know before I start this: First, Im a fifteen year old, sophomore, in high school. Second, this probably wont be a short question. In fact, I know it will be long. Please bear with me, though.
Alright. So Im a guy. Super shy-type. My shyness is to the point where I cant make new friends unless they approach me first. Ive tried just not caring what people thing, Ive tried dozens of "tactics" to overcome shyness, but none work. I just cant do it. As a result of this shyness, Ive developed an inclination to being alone. I really dont mind being alone, and, as a matter of fact, I like it. I feel it gives me time to reflect and just think about life. Since Im so shy, I have few friends. Since I have few friends, and I like to be alone a good portion of the time, I spend a lot of time thinking. This leads me to overthink things, sometimes leads to self-pity, and just generally ends with me feeling like crap about myself.
I do have a couple positive things that have come of this, though. First and foremost, Im really smart. This is the only thing I give myself credit for, as along with my shyness, Im incredibly modest. I make straight As in school (with the sole exception of math classes, which are usually Bs), and I enjoy reading. The second positive thing that has come of this...well, let me explain it: After months of being tormented by my own thoughts, I decided maybe an instrument would help me vent and express myself, so I decided to pick up the guitar and start taking lessons. Ive been at it for a few months now, and Im going along at a good pace, and since I spend so much time alone, it gives me plenty of time to practice. Anyway, the main thing Im insecure about is my looks. I think I look horrible, and Ive tried contacts, haircuts, EVERYTHING to look better, to no avail. As for what Im like...Im shy, smart, I try to be really nice to everyone and never make fun of people, Im always a gentleman, and (only when Im around close friends...Im too nervous around others) Im actually a funny guy. All of my friends think Im really funny. The issue is that my friends arent the type that I could depend on. What Id call "close friends" the average teenager might call "people I know". I mean I talk to them daily, but I know that I could never confide in them or ask for relationship advice or anything like that. They just arent like that.
I could write more, but Ill just try to cut to the chase. I like a girl. Ive never really liked any other girls, as I always thought every other girl in my grade was too superficial and just not my type at all. Recently I ran into (Im avoiding using the word met since, well, I havent talked to her) someone I can tell I like more than any other girl Ive crushed on. Shes a lot like me, in a lot of ways. Shes on the quiet, shy side, she seems to refrain from starting social experiences, she plays an instrument (albeit much better than I do), and overall I really like her.
A few things have just kept me from talking to her. First, theres an age difference. Shes a full year older than me. That might not sound like a lot, but for someone who already looks much younger than my actual age, its a pretty big leap. Second, I cant do this "smile at her" thing. I just cant. I cant make myself look presentable, which is the same reason I cant take a decent picture. I look my best when Im not trying to, in my opinion, and when I try to force a smile I just come off creepy and it looks dumb. Third, Im just so nervous that Ill be a "burden". I dont want to be where Im not wanted, which is the same reason I dont start conversations with people, even if I know them. I want to be 100% sure they want to talk to me, before I do anything. I mean, I know I hate it when the kid that thinks hes your friend tries to talk to you and hang around you constantly, and I would hate to be on the other end of that. Lastly, I dont think she is interested in me at all. She shows a complete lack of interest around me, never looks at me (at least I dont see it), nothing of that sort.
Anyway, even I know this is an absurd amount of text, so I dont blame you if you didnt read anything past the first line. Thanks for showing interest, I suppose. Anyway, before I close, one last thing: Ive had people ask this in the past, so, for reference, here is a (horrid) picture of me. Just keep in mind I look a tiny bit more presentable out and about, because I just cant take a picture at ALL. Also, I assure you, Im fifteen. I just dont look it.

Answer: I'm an intelligent over-thinker as well. Actually, this felt similar to something I would write (minus the facts I'm a female, I'm 16, I chose the keyboard rather than the guitar, and I don't bother changing my appearance) My personal opinion is that you seem bottled up. The vast majority of people cannot handle keeping their emotions inside. I recommend adding another form of expression in addition to you playing the guitar (writing songs, drawing, journaling, etc..). It might keep you from being so, for lack of a better term, uptight. You should also take strides to make stronger bonds with your acquaintances. Although I don't hang out with many people I find it is not easy to make friends, but you have to let people see your personality. You also shouldn't be so self-conscious about your appearance and how people see you. If I person doesn't like you or thinks you are annoying, you more than likely will be able to tell based on their expressions and body language. There is bound to be people who won't like you, its nature. And as far as the girl issues, it would probably be easier if you made friends with her first, then move forward. When you feel you're ready tell her head on or think up a colorful way. For those types of decision I usually do things in a way that I won't be able to change my mind if I chicken out. If she says no then you could be sad for a while, maybe a little bit depressed, but as long as you remember life moves on it won't matter. :)
As far as appearance you aren't NEARLY as bad as you think. But I think you should get a more voluminous, not so flat to you head hair styles.
I think one of these would work well for you:

If you don't like those try something like this (in relation to the volume)

CCL final. RSL vs Monterrey? Your opinions?
First off. Let me say that I have the utmost respect for the Mexican league teams. They have shown their strength time and time again. I am a big MLS fan and supporter. I am proud that the MLS will be represented in the final. RSL has repped us well. With that said I cant wait to see this final.
I know Monterrey are favorites. I am rooting for RSL to win it. I dont expect RSL to win it. I know Monterrey have the advantage. I do however expect RSL to go at Monterrey with everything they got and threaten to upset Monterrey in this final. I have seen the MLS improve throughout the years and this might be the year the MLS makes a leap into a new class.
Good luck to both teams. I would recommend Monterrey to be cautious of these guys.
Saborio, Johnson, espindola, morales, paolo jr, olave, borchers, rimando.
Theyre not too bad. from Monterrey Im most worried about suazo. That dudes a monster in front of goal. The rest of the team are also no joke.
Answer: It should be two great games. I could actually see Real Salt Lake beating Monterrey, and going off to the Club World Cup. I think Vucetich might have some tricks up his sleeve come game time though.
btw Vucetich is the name of Monterrey's coach.

Taking the SAT in less than a week, aiming for at least a 1300, need study tips!?
Im taking the SAT for the first time on January 23rd (a little less than a week.) Ive been reviewing some old math concepts and doing vocabulary flashcards, but I feel like I really need to step it up this week. Im aiming for at least a 1300 (NOT including writing). In August I took a practice SAT and got a score of 1200. I took another in November or December, after I had been reviewing for a month or so, and got a 1350. (Big leap, huh?) (Both of these practice tests were from the same website, but were not the same test.) This year on my PSAT, I had a 64 on critical reading, a 64 on math and a 73 on writing. Im not sure if this is any indication of how Ill do on the real thing, though...
Can someone give me some study tips for the next week? I really, really need some good prep tips. I want to get into New College of Florida, and I want to blow them away with my scores. Also, can someone tell me if my goals are realistic, and how to achieve those goals?

What should I do after graduating from college? A chance to take a leap of faith, backwards from bad situation?
I graduated with a four year degree in December. the next logical step was to leave the college town I was in and move back to where my family are. I thought it would be a good idea, but am finding that the job market is so bad, Im having to lower my standards now. Im finding Im back in a household, of my parents, though temporarily, that has bad pathology in it. My stepfather was verbally abusive and I stepped in because he was verbally abusing my niece and nephew. He did the same to my sister and I. I had to defend them and tell him he was not going to do the same. My mom always accepted his behavior so I had to intervene. It re-stimulated feelings I had from childhood. It put me back in that place again, shaken up. Im now a new graduate, job searching, yet I feel like Im regressing in their bad household. He is a porn addict as well which of course hurts my mom. Needless to say, its just hard to be there in the midst of trying to embark out into this big wide world on my own two feet.
Problem now is, I have no where else to go here. I am thinking about returning to my college town to use the job resources and get a small job to save money. I see it as going back to the drawing board and staying with a friend there.
My mother is telling me I am making a big mistake to go back there. I just dont have any other options that are healthier for me right now. I have anxiety, I feel absolutely misplaced and the only think I can think of is going back to where I was before all of this. I should not be a stressful situation while Im figuring it out I think.
Does anyone have any advice or support for my idea.. or does it sound like regression.

SLIPSTREAM; Face Recognition Makes The Leap From Sci-Fi
FACIAL recognition technology is a staple of sci-fi thrillers like Minority Report. But of bars in Chicago? SceneTap, a new app for smart phones, uses cameras with facial detection software to scout bar scenes. Without identifying specific bar patrons, it posts information like the average age of a crowd and the ratio of men to women, helping - Slipstream column observes apps that use facial recognition technology are being used in variety of ways, including to scout bar scenes; warns that technology is developing faster than privacy safeguards, but concedes technology has great business potential. Does anyone believe that the Earth couldve been rotating faster in the 2nd 1350 year period than the first?
I did a lot on here yesterday while watching my anime Bleach on my Blu-ray. I made a whole bunch of calculations and new discoveries when trying to also discover the midpoint and the best time for sunrise that should be suggested to keep constant and consistent for long periods of time for the same day of the year depending on the sidereal time to show whether its the same time of year, earlier or later in the year. At least astronomers can keep a good sidereal clock. Check this out:
On my birthday, the sun rises inbetween 11:38 PM to 11:43 PM on the sidereal clock in my rural area on Earth. It never changes no matter how much the Earth has slown down, but the range might change slowly. Who knows? Its negligible because I didnt put the exact sidereal time on there. The closest ones would be inbetween 11:38:22.5 PM and 11:43:14.9 PM. Thus within that 4 minute 52 second and 4 decisecond range. Any time the time of sunrise goes inbetween these 2, sidereal times 11:38:22.6 to 11:43:14.9 PM, I pretend thats July 7. And any time the time of sunrise goes to exactly 11:38:22.5 and below to 11:33:31.8, I pretend thats July 6 and add a leap day so I can keep up with my good guesswork. I never let it get past 11:43:14.9 PM because then, Id call that July 8 but I think I did it with 1 exception. See my shown work here down below.
1 day earlier: Friday, July 6, 99998 BC 8:11:31 PM PDT Sidereal Time: 11:38:22.5 PM Julian Day: -34802532.367
1st birthday on Starry Night: Saturday, July 7, 99998 BC 8:12:27 PM PDT Sidereal Time: 11:43:14.9 PM Julian Day: -34802530.36635

Answer: Lots of maths but no observations,
You are assuming times that you did not measure yourself, did you get them from starry night?, did you check that starry night contains an algorithm for the earth slowing down?
All you have measured is a computer program that might or might not be accurate
The cheap starry night is not that accurate, you just proved it. the expensive ($1000) version is.
Astronomers measure the rotation of the earth with transit telescopes and atomic clocks and show WITHOUT DOUBT that the earth is slowing down due to lunar recession.
.
Physicists measure the distance to the moon with lasers and Apollo 11 retroreflectors, it is definately moving away, casing the earth to slow down.

What do you think so far? How can I make it better?
Juliets Democracy.
I slammed the screen door with flourish. On my shoulder was my tattered purple backpack. I let it hit the ground with a sigh by the door. I walked across the living room into the doorway of the kitchen, and I rested my hand on the wood of the jamb, which was chipped badly. It didnt surprise me, this house was incredibly old. No surprise there, either, for all houses in Baxter, Tennessee were all pretty old.
I saw my mother in the kitchen, stirring some sort of yellowish substance. I watched her for a moment before I spoke. She had her hair pinned up into a black clip. She kept stirring, stirring, making a whirlpool of the yellow goo.
"Mama?" I said. "Im home from school." I waited for a response.
"Oh, Hello darling." She smiled at me, and warm smile. "dinners almost ready if you want some." I tried to smile, I thought whatever that was in the pot was some sort of medication for a flesh-eating virus.
I ran up the stairs, and up the ladder to my bedroom. I somewhat skipped through the room, and leapt into the fluffy bed full of white, downy pillows. I resurfaced, and slid my hand underneath my pillow. I withdrew a piece of paper. I unfolded it for what was most likely the tenth time, today, and read the small print on it. It held my flight time, and all of my airplane details. You see, in about 24 hours I would be on a plane flying to California. Los angeles, for that matter. I was utterly excited. I was finally going to get out of this stupid tiny town and into a big, fabulous city with a beach, for once. I was going to see my aunt and millions of young cousins. I loved them all, of course, but Aunt Jane had told me I was welcome to her car whenever I wanted it, If that tells you anything. But I wouldnt be alone, My Aunt Janes oldest daughter, and my favorite cousin, Arianna Elizabeth. But I usually just called her Ari. She was the typical California girl, in the meaning of the word. She had visited us in Tennessee before. She had slept up in the attic, which doubles as my bedroom, (This is generally really cool, but not during Tornado season, during this time, it is terrifying.) and we had stood in our thin nightgowns, swaying like paper ghosts in the wind that blew in through the cracks of the roof. She had had her hair straightened by a flat iron, and she wore a bandana wrapped around a ponytail, which I had thought as weird at the time. Sometimes she even wore fake eyelashes. This was a culture shock from my sun dresses and loose, wavy hair. I hardly even wore makeup.
Ari was a year younger than me- sixteen. And she was the complete opposite of me, She was obsessed with boys, makeup and material things, while I was into my horse and swimming at the watering hole. Ari wore leather jackets while I wore wool sweaters. It isnt that Ari Is unkind or shallow, its just the environment I suppose.
I slid the paper back under my pillow. I decided to pack my things. I flipped upside-down so that my flaxen hair was swinging, coming dangerously close to the dusty floor, and snatched my old red suitcase out from under my bed. I smacked it onto the soft bed, and started slowly, neatly placing folded clothes into it. I am a perfectionist. If a picture is crooked and the house was on fire, I would fix the picture before getting out. Its ridiculous, I know, but thats just me. I dug through my dresser, and found the barely even used bathing suit I had bought when I was about twelve. I guess I would have to buy a new one.
After swallowing the yellow mush, which had turned out to be cornmeal, I walked out into the dusk, preparing to say goodbye to all that I would leave behind for a month. I felt the pebbly road grind underneath my sneakered feet. Occasionally, a leaf crunches underfoot. I walk along the dusty, humid back road, with the gentle breeze whispering in my face, and the emeralds dripping down with exhaustion, sighing with the warm, breathy wind.
I walk, childishly whispering my goodbyes to the trees, the rocks, the birds; I walk past the sad, heaving old Elementary School, which I had made paper bag owls, and hand-print turkeys on Thanksgiving.
For some odd reason, I decided to hop the fence, become eight again, and hang upside down from the monkey bars. As I was letting all the blood rush to my head, I see a particular dark figure manifesting through the trees. The figure trips over a rock. I chuckle, and loose my balance and fly off the bars and this sends me sprawling into the sawdust.
"Kasey?" A loud, concerned voice squeals right in my ear. I scream, which is rare, but I do this because the dark figure had suddenly arrived right where I was spread eagle on the ground.
"Scooter!" I say now. " What are you doing here?!" He looked at his feet, obviously searching his big head for an excuse for following me.
"I was just taking a

Steinbrenner Says Yanks Need Only Fine-Tuning
MILWAUKEE -- At baseballs owners meetings last year, Hal Steinbrenner, the Yankees managing general partner, fielded numerous pointed questions about the explosive situation the team faced as it negotiated a new contract with Derek Jeter. Those inquiries made for an awkward and at times painful off-season. Things are much simpler now. - New York Yankees managing general partner Hal Steinbrenner says he feels secure that the 2012 version of the team only needs some fine-tuning, namely another starting pitcher and perhaps some bullpen help. Some of your ideas for what GTA 5 should have?
Well, I really liked GTA 4, but they had some flaws. Then again, it was more of an experiment game probably since I think it was the first game Rockstar made for PS3 or at least the first GTA game by Rockstar and the first major game for Rockstar to undertake for PS3. Think of it, they had to design a map that was HUGE using a probably 2 year old engine with some awesome graphics. They were using SO many new things. From San Andreas to GTA4 that is pretty big leap in graphics, gameplay, map size, etc. I dont even know if they made a game in-between the releases of those 2 games. Also they were trying new mechanics or whatever like controllable drivebys, moving with manual aim for any gun (well except sniper rifles unless your taking cover), search area, the amount of cops the game can control, taking cover, etc. Not to mention it was a 2008 release and the game could actually control all the motion, graphics, physics of how things work, and so on really amazes me that they could make such a leap in gaming technology in a less than a decade. Look 20 or 30 years ago they came out with Pong probably in the 1970s I think.
ANYWAYS HERE ARE MY IDEAS FOR GTA 5:
I think they should allow you to buy more property like in past GTAs, more cheat codes, MORE GUNS (MINIGUN ANYONE?) , more clothes to buy or actually be able EARN the clothes. I mean in GTA 4 the NOOSE swat clothes were REALLY cool. I REALLY wanted to be able to get them WITHOUT moding the game since I dont know how to and I not going to anyways. Also I thought they should have some Army outfits, uniforms, or whatever, Navy uniforms, Arctic camo uniforms, Desert camo uniforms, Jungle camo uniforms, Spetsnaz (Russian army or Russian military force), and more casual city clothes. ALso some really cool swat uniforms (even cooler than the NOOSE swat uniforms) AND A REAL TANK!! I want an Army base or military base that I can actually go attack like in GTA Vice City with a helicopter that I HAVE to EARN through VIGILANT missions or some kind of in-game things I HAVE to collect. I want some vigilant missions, ambulance missions, pizza boy missions, ambulance missions, and maybe some other missions too in GTA 5!! Also MAYBE have the ability to buy and grow illegal businesses like racket protection like in GTA Vice City Stories. I NOT asking for like 100 car garages, a private island, a world wide game that allows you to visit every single GTA map from the past, etc. I ONLY want the camo, army, and swat uniforms, the military base or bases, the tank, a helicopter like the Annihilator, the vigilant missions (and the other mission types too), the ability to buy property, ability to EARN uniforms as rewards through mission completion, have more guns like Minigun (there BETTER be a minigun:) ), be able to go into and shoot up police stations, and HAVE A MALL to be able to go into like the North Point Mall in GTA Vice City, but MUCH bigger!!
SO WHAT ARE YOUR IDEAS?
Answer: I'm hoping for a Vice City like setting again, which seems possible. While Niko was a good character, he was one of my least favorite of the GTA characters. Other then that, try to adapt some elements from the old GTA games (like you mentioned) The GTA expansion, The Ballad of Gay Tony, was a step in the right direction.

New easier way to surf the net possible ?
OK, I am not a super technical person, thus I never thought of this until now (DUH). Ive been using a heavy hot laptop perched on my lap now for several years. It is running from my wireless router, so thats one step into the future Ive made. But I am SO tired of holding onto this hot heavy laptop, I want to make the next leap into the future - Would it be fairly easy to put the (Sony Vaio) laptop over on the desk, hook some type of video wire from the laptops CPU output plug to the input on my new HDEF LCD living-room TV (it has many inputs including SVideo and HDMI ports) - and then get a wireless-keyboard, and have that as the only thing I keep in my lap? What I am not clear on are (1) what type of wire/connection do I need between the laptops cpu and the digital flatscreen TV, and (2) how do the wireless-keyboards work - again how does it transmit or communicate from the wireless keyboard to the laptops cpu? is there something that plugs into the side of the computers ports to talk to the wireless keyboard (which port, USB, ??) Sorry if some of these questions are naive but I am not a real high tech person. Can this be done pretty easily with todays technology? I think it would be SUPER to be able to surf the net, with the PC display on the big screen hdef tv, and just the light little wireless keyboard in my lap. Has anyone done this, or any suggestions/recommendation/help on setting this up - thanks very much !!
update: my sony vaio laptop is a few years old - model PCG7R2L - looking at all its ports, I dont think I see any HDMI (pc maybe a bit too old?) - it appears to have a little socket labeled S400, a round "S Video" socket, and a 15 pin "VGA" port. Which of these is easiest or best one to hook up to the TV to see the PC display properly ?
Answer: If you are lucky enough to have HDMI out on your laptop then I'd use that - chances are you have VGA or S-Video only in which case you will also need to output audio from your laptop to the RCA audio inputs on your TV (unless you can live without audio)
as for wireless keyboards, you could try something like this Adesso ( I use the UK equivalent model and it is just fine)
http://www.amazon.com/Adesso-WIRELESS-SLIMTOUCH-TOUCHPAD-WKB-4000US/dp/B00083Y0YG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1269364918&sr=8-2
you plug the accompanying dongle into your laptop USB slot and windows loads all the necessary drivers for your wireless keyboard to work
if you have the money and want something fancy, go for the Logitech diNovo
http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-diNovo-Edge-Keyboard-Black/dp/B000J43HJ8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1269365332&sr=8-1-spell
or the mini version
http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-920-000594-diNovo-Mini/dp/B0011FOOI2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1269365386&sr=1-1
These are the only wireless keyboards I have tried; hopefully others will offer other suggestions.

Why did she change her mind about being with me?
Hi folks
Ive got an issue thats been bugging me for a few weeks and I wanted some genuine advice. Okay, about four months ago a girl got in contact with me on a dating site. We had a few nice exchanges and we connected on Facebook but it seemed to fizzle out so I put it out of my mind. But in the New Year, the same girl messaged me to see if I still wanted to meet up. I said sure, and we had a date which went fantastically well, so much so that she wanted to meet up for a second date within a few days.
The second date also went very well, better than the first in some ways. We spoke about having a strong attraction to one another and she told me that while she wasnt ready to make the leap into a full-blown thing, she wanted to come off the dating sites and date me exclusively. I thought the same, and we also kissed for the first time that night.
But by the time of date number three, I had a feeling there was a little distance between us already; she said she was really busy and focussed on her career, and on the third date she alluded to not wanting to hurt me and all that stuff, so I pretty much knew it was going to stop. I told her later on that week that I didnt want a casual thing, I wanted the exclusivity she claimed to want but shed changed her mind. After a brief break in communication, were tentaively texting but even now, I feel like she just doesnt want to talk to me at all. Ive also noted that shes back on the dating site we met on.
I kind of feel now that she just doesnt find me an attractive person anymore, but Im still the same chap I was when we had our first date. I gave her space and time and I dont intend to pressure her into meeting, but she made a big impression on me but it seems like shes forgotten me and those strong feelings she had really quickly. Its confused the hell out of me - if she didnt have the time for me, why is looking for others when she wanted me only just a few weeks ago? Please can someone shed some light because Im totally stumped!
Answer: Present your concern to her in a non-blaming / non-judgemental ways, and ASK HER straightforwardly. Otherwise, you would be stuck in a infinite loop of speculation about "why".

What do you think of my first short chapter?
The story is going to be called weddings, funerals, and other miseries. Im fifteen, I aced my English test last week and Ive only edited this chapter once.
Chapter one.
It was another wet night for Alex, he locked up the shop, combed his slick, black hair and began to bike his way home, just like he did every other night. Alex had worked at the local music store for the past five years now, he got hired when he was fifteen by his Dad, who ran the store, and now Alex was in management; His parents died in a tragic accident, they were driving home from another wedding, for some reason his family liked weddings, funerals, any annoying gathering that forces misery or happiness onto everyone there.
Of course, they were drunk. Driving by the cliffs near his seaside house, his Father swerved from the edge into the deep blue below them, the car wasn’t found for another two weeks, all that was left from each person was half a decaying corpse, Alex didn’t talk about this much, he hated it. The funeral was like any other, the same lot always arriving, one man arrived who Alex had never seen before, the man left before the wake when he was hoping he would be able to introduce himself. Alex moved into a new apartment, the depression of riding past the cliffs every day antagonized him, it made him more pissed off to be upset, that he would forget about being upset.
Alex sat on his bed in his foggy, green swamp of a bedroom, and opened his draw where he kept all the savings he had, as well as his “special friend”. He pulled out a bag of white powder and walked into his living room. He poured some coke onto the glass coffee table that he lost his virginity on and began his favorite part, pulling out the razorblade and making fine lines, pouring out some wine to drink between lines. He was ready to snort the chemicals deep into his system. He rolled up a ten pound note and bent over the table, sniffing up line by line until he had finished three. He gulped down his blood red wine, tipped the rest of his Charlie into the bag and rolled up a joint.
He turned on his old television and put on some Saturday morning cartoons, that was the strange thing about cocaine, Alex could stay up all night, and even weed wouldn’t tire him. He would stare at the walls then, just to end the high on a subtle note, watch some cartoons, baked out of his mind, sinking deeper into the sofa. There was a knock at the door “Rent money…rent money…rent money!!” Alex leapt into his bedroom and grabbed the one hundred pound for this week. He opened the door to see an old woman, somewhere in her eighties: purple hair, too much make up, curlers in. “Her you go Mrs. Wench. All one hundred, I love your red hair today.” Alex always gave her a compliment, just so she wouldn’t get annoyed with him and decide to search the flat. She always preferred having her hair called red, even she doesn’t know why, the crack around her lips looked like various canals leading into a big see of red lipstick. “Oh fuck off you little shit, I know what you’re up to!”
”And a nice day to you too, Mrs. Wench!” He called after her on her way down the corridor.
Answer: You certainly need to edit it again but the story is rather intriguing. For some reason I had the impression that Alex was a rather clean living person and was very disappointed to discover that he was some sort of raving drug addict on 'coke' and 'cannabis.' You have a lot of facts in the story too soon and the one that is important to the story and is part of the title you seem to skim over. Why does the family like funerals and weddings etc. Explain the tradition and say when Alex went to his first gathering etc.
You write "he got hired when he was fifteen" but that doesn't sound right so try 'was hired' instead. You also tend to use the word 'he' too much. Try linking some of the sentences together to cut down on its use.
You do have a certain style to your writing and there is flow to the story and the action within it but try not to introduce too much all at once. Keep the necessary parts but the detail could be filled in later. As an example it is necessary to know that his parents were killed in a car accident but the fact they drove off a cliff and were drunk at the time are things that could be used later. Whatever you decide good luck with it and make sure you finish it because I for one want to know how Alex ends up.

When should you take a big leap of faith for a relationship?
To cut a long story short, my girlfriend of 4 years got a PhD offer overseas. We were both brokenhearted because I tried moving at the time (I was still studying) but I couldnt. We did a long distance thing for a while, but it was really hard, because she was thrust into a really stressful and competitive university and didnt really deal well with both breaking up and the new environment. I went to visit her and it went pretty well, but after I left it was too much for her and she got really depressed for a while and needed time apart. Basically its been almost 1.5 years since she left, and right now the situation is that Im now in more of a position to move, but shes still wanting some time and space to get her issues under control.
I dont know what to do.. Ive managed so that we have about a month together when she is on holidays in our home town, and I guess were going to see how it goes, but I think that shes hesitant about getting involved again when she has to go back and focus on her work.. I guess in one way Im sure that this girl loves me, but basically because of her initial decision to commit to this 5 year PhD program, it would be me that would have to move to where she is, and Im not secure that she would do that for me, but I would have to do that for her. So I guess my question is, how do you know when to take a big leap for a relationship? Should you just do it and then see how it works out?
P.S Im asking this in marriage because it could lead to marriage..
Answer: It doesn't sound like she's ready for you to be there, and it may even be time to just end the relationship. You may feel like it's "4 years down the drain" but if she doesn't want to be with you with every fiber of her being now, it'll only get worse years down the track.

Purchasing a Television –Vizio or Philips
Introduction
When it comes to purchasing a Television society makes it a little harder than before. There are many popular names when it comes to electronics today to name a few you have Vizio, Philips, Magnavox, and JVC. Although we do know these names they do have a few differences with the expanding of cable television.
History
I decided to give a little history on the two products before I explain the difference of the two. I believe the history of any product plays a big role in today’s society. When we choose a product to buy we use experience of this product. We may also take into consideration how much many people purchase this item for their own use.
Vizio is a new company that has recently surfaced in the United States these past few years. They have a headquarters located in Irvine, California where they just relocated to. They are trying to become one of the biggest retailers for plasma’s and HDTV’s in the United States. This is a brand that we have not heard much about till recently. They have low prices on TV’s that you may not find any where else. Vizio had there product in just about any electronic store that they can be in.
Philips who has been around for years to be exact since 1891 but, they did not begin making televisions until later on in the 194’s when they took a leap into the future. Philips in one company that we have all heard of and enjoyed seeing the new products that they came out with. The biggest question that we ask can they stay update and with the growing economy in technology. I believe that Philips is a great product they have managed to stay one of the largest companies in the electronic world with a great resume to hand out.
Quality
When we start to dap in the quality of these two companies and who sticks behind their product the most. I have notice when you are purchasing a television not only do you want the best but, also the quality for your money. Many people rely on the old company because they feel they know what is best. At the same time them new company may also know what is best and know it better than anyone else in that league.
Vizio is able to meet that standards of size and quality of the picture in the televise for a lot less. I have notice that Vizio offers you 1080i resolution on any TV. no matter the size or price of it. They are giving you a choice on how long you would like a warranty on your television. If you choose a four year warranty your price does not increase a lot and make you change your mind. They stand behind their TV’s one hundred percent and never question you on why. They even make sure you are satisfied with the product that you purchased from them.
Philips is also able to meet some of the needs of customers but at a higher price. Their name had carried them a long ways and that is the reason their price is different than other companies that have not been around for so long. I have notice depending on the pixel that you get with the TV. You purchased your price will vary greatly. They also stand behind their product one hundred percent with no questions asked. However you have more of a choice with Philips when it comes to products. You can choose to buy a TV, a razor or even c.d’s to name a few products.
Differences of pixel’s
By choosing your pixel or resolution that is basically asking you your quality of the picture itself and how brilliant you want it to be. Both of these companies offer you a variety of pixel or even resolution which is both the same thing. If you get a lower resolution than they claim your picture is not that great if you get a higher one. Many people when they purchase either TV. look at this as a key factor. They may even see who has the better warranty on their product.
Both companies have a great warranty on all their products. The prices vary greatly by who makes the TV. and what you want to be included in this television. They offer you a variety of warranty extending up to four years of a warranty.
Names
I have notice if you ask people which TV they will choose they automatically choose Philips. This is a company that has been around for so many years and people trust that name no matter what. I understand that Vizio has not been around for long but also carries a great product from my research. If given a few more years who knows Vizio might carry the same reputation as Philips does. Until that time comes the name Philips carry a stronger hold on the society itself and in products to.
Conclusion
I have done a great length of research on these two companies to come to the conclusion that their really is no difference in these products at all. They both have great televisions and stand behind their product one hundred percent. The real difference is name and reputation that they have built so far. From my reading Philips has many years in the industry as Vizio does not.
Vizio is able to charge you less for the same product just to get the reputation that other companies have for instance Philips. You get the same great picture from both companies as you would any other company with the same product.
I and my husband have chosen Vizio because of the low price that they offer and we will see if it is any different than the Philips. We have owned a Philips in the past and loved it we just felt there is a time for change.
Answer: You have good information; I just changed up some of your wording so it wasn't as wordy and I took out some sentences.
Introduction
When purchasing a television, society makes it difficult. There are many popular electronic names today such as Vizio, Philips, Magnavox and JVS. Although we do know names, all electronics have differences with the expansion of cable.
History
The history of any product plays a role in society today. When we select a product to buy, we base our judgement on past experience. We also take the cost into consideration.
Vizio, a new company, has recently surfaced in the United States. The headquarters is located in Irvine, California. They are working to become the biggest retailer for Plamsa and HDTVs in the United States. The prices for televisions are low, so you may not find the prices elsewhere. Vizio has products in almost all electronic stores.
Philips, a company since 1891, did not begin making televisions until the 1940s. Philips is a popular company; everyone looks foward to their new products. The biggest question asked is if the company stays updated in growing economy and technology. They have managed to stay one of the largest companies in the electronic world.
Quality
When you are purchasing a telvision, most people buy for quality. Many rely on old companies because they trust them. At the same time, new companies may also be trustworthy.
Vizio meets the standards of size and picture quality in televisions. Vizio offers a 1080i resolution on any television, regardless of size or price. The buyer also chooses how long the warranty lasts. While four year warranties are slightly more expensive, the stand beind their television is one hundred percent. They make sure you are satisfied with your product.
Philips also meets the needs of customers, but their prices are higher. Depending on the pixelation you get with your television, the price will vary. They, too, stand behind their products one hundred percent.
Differences of Pixels
Pixelation, or resolution, is the quality and brilliance of the television's picture. Both companies offer a variety of pixelation. To some, a key factor is also which company has a better warranty. The prices do vary by the telvision and what is included. The highest warranty is four years.
Names
People automatically choose Philips when it comes to televisions since they are such a trusted company. I understand Vizio has not been around for long, but if they are given a few more years, Vizio mary carry the same social status.
Conclusion
I have done research on both companies. I have concluded neither television is better than the other. Both companies stand behind their products. The only differences are the name and reputation in society.
Vizio charges less for the same product so they can achieve a high status. My husband and I have chosen Vizio because of their low prices.
