Who wins in a war between China and Japan?
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/world/anti-japan-protesters-rally-in-china-over-boat-dispute/story-e6frf7lf-1225926016533
WAVING banners and chanting anti-Japanese slogans, protesters staged rallies in China to voice anger over the arrest of a Chinese trawler captain that sparked a major diplomatic dispute.
"Down with little Japan," "free our captain" and "remember Sept. 18," demonstrators shouted in Beijing as sirens rang out to commemorate the highly-sensitive anniversary of Japans invasion of Manchuria in 1931.
Beijing is furious about the seizure of a Chinese fishing boat near a disputed island chain in the East China Sea and the subsequent arrest of the captain.
Tokyo claims the man intentionally rammed two Japanese coastguard vessels during a high seas chase Sept. 7.
The incident sparked the worst tensions between the Asian neighbors in years, with Beijing summoning Tokyos ambassador five times in a week and scrapping scheduled talks over joint energy exploration in the East China Sea.

The uninhabited islands - called Senkaku in Japan and Diaoyu in China, and also claimed by Taiwan - lie in an area with rich fishing grounds that is also believed to contain oil and gas deposits.
Tokyo warned its citizens in China to remain vigilant to ensure their safety in the event of any backlash over the dispute.
More than 100 demonstrators rallied near Japans embassy in Beijing, and a group also stopped outside the Chinese foreign ministry, where they chanted "down with the traitors to the motherland" and urged China to "retake the Diaoyu islands."
In Shanghai, around 20 demonstrators gathered near the Japanese consulate and several were arrested, according to an eyewitness. Other protesters tried unsuccessfully to block the police car taking them away.
Sirens wailed in several cities to mark the anniversary of Japans occupation of a swathe of northern China, which began with an assault on the city of Shenyang 79 years ago. The atrocities committed by Japanese forces cast a long shadow over relations between the two economic powerhouses, with frequent calls on Tokyo to apologize.
About 70 protesters marched through central Hong Kong toward the Japanese consulate, chanting for the return of the ships captain and the disputed island chain. "The Diaoyu islands are Chinese territory, but theyre under the control of the Japanese government," said Derek Lien, 24. "We want the ships captain returned and an apology."
Albert Ho, chairman of Hong Kongs Democratic Party, called on Tokyo to "tender an unqualified written apology" over the maritime incident and "immediately return the Diaoyu islands to our country."
"We want to let the Japanese understand the feelings of our nation," he said.
Protesters held Chinese flags and waved banners with slogans such as "Chinese people cant be put down by the Japanese government," while Ho called for "reasonable compensation for war crimes" committed during the Manchurian invasion.

Answer: As the person above state, Japan because we would side with them.
But if we were not in the mix.
China. but not by the vast margin every one is stated.
A few things to understand.
#1. The Chinese Navy. Wile having allot more ships and some subs, Is still not as good as the Japanese one, In the terms of surface ships. And a navy can easy be countered by a air force, So wile i am still giving a naval confrontation to the Chinese, It would be painful for them.
#2. You can't cut Japanese Life Line just by sinking shipping. Because now a days you can Fly Supply in much quicker then by sea. Its less officiant but hay.
#3. On the land China wins hands down, wile Japan wile likely win at a 1 to 2 rate or so that's still no real contest. The thing is that China has to get people to Japan, and that takes boats and air plains.
#4. And that brings us to the real point, Japanese air power is pretty damn impressive. And not really THAT outnumbered here. So we are talking about a extreamly painful win here for the Chinese, And most likly the loss of allot of ground troops as well.
So my answer is China, But the thing is, I think it would be so painful that its really not worth it.
Also one should consider that wile there is no love lost between south Korea and japan, its very likely they would be involved as well.
_
But the person on here that stated as much is right, this is a very small matter, china is just crying foul on this one for leverage. Just think about it this way, if China attacks Japan, the U.S. WILL STOP trading with them. And BAM. There goes there entire economy.

Is it possible North Korea fired a warning shot...and missed?
Recently a South Korean navy ship was sunk near the disputed maritime border between North and South. Navy CSI has reportedly confirmed that it was sunk by an indirect hit by a torpedo. All signs point to an attack from a DPRK (North Korean) sub. Yet, if it was a deliberate attack, they have been uncharacteristically quiet about it, especially considering their bombastic stance after two ships traded fire in the same region last year. There are only a few possibilities in this scenario.
1) They sank the ship deliberately and with prior approval by the state. This doesnt seem likely though. This would make it a clear act of war, and it seems odd that they would deliberately provoke a war and then pretend it didnt happen.
2) It was deliberately sunk by a DPRK warship without prior approval by the state.
3) It was inadvertently sunk by a DPRK warship. That is to say the torpedo was meant to explode far enough away from the ship to be provocative, but not close enough to destroy the ship. In other words it was a warning shot that missed. This might be possible, considering the ship was destroyed by a torpedo which detonated some distance from the ship.
My question then is this; considering the nature of military ordinance, is the third scenario even possible? Are torpedoes meant to be detonated at distance, or does is fact that it was suggestive of a miscalculated warning shot?
Answer: No, torpedoes are designed to detonate at a lethal distance from their target, they can't be "set" to explode at a safe distance as a "warning shot." It is entirely possible though that the torpedo was accidentally fired, either by human error or a mechanical malfunction. It also may have been inadvertently fired by a South Korean vessel, something they would be a little leery about admitting to say the least.
Comes right down to it, the public may never know what actually happened, everyone involved has good reason to lie.

should obama and clinton send yet another angery stern letter in red ink?was this the reaction he hoped for?
SEOUL, South Korea – North Korea threatened military action Wednesday against U.S. and South Korean warships plying the waters near the Koreas disputed maritime border, raising the specter of a naval clash just days after the regimes underground nuclear test.
Pyongyang, reacting angrily to Seouls decision to join an international program to intercept ships suspected of aiding nuclear proliferation, called the move tantamount to a declaration of war.
"Now that the South Korean puppets were so ridiculous as to join in the said racket and dare declare a war against compatriots," North Korea is "compelled to take a decisive measure," the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea said in a statement carried by state media.
The North Korean army called it a violation of the armistice the two Koreas signed in 1953 to end their three-year war, and said it would no longer honor the treaty.
South Koreas military said Wednesday it was prepared to "respond sternly" to any North Korean provocation.
North Koreas latest belligerence comes as the U.N. Security Council debates how to punish the regime for testing a nuclear bomb Monday in what President Barack Obama called a "blatant violation" of international law.

Will we ever hear the truth about how US hostages died under US military besiegement of Somali pirates...?
...instead of these lies:
"Four U.S. warships had been shadowing the Quest since shortly after it was seized south of Oman on Friday, and U.S. officials were in radio contact with the captors as the pirates tried to sail it to the Somali shore. The power behind such abductions for ransom — a multimillion-dollar business — lies not with the pirates at sea but their financial backers on land. And once the kidnappers reach shore with their hostages, options for rescue are limited.
A channel of negotiations had been opened, and on Monday two pirates boarded the USS Sterett, a guided-missile destroyer some 600 yards (meters) from the seized yacht, and they stayed overnight, said Vice Adm. Mark Fox, commander of the U.S. 5th Fleet in Bahrain.
By the next morning, though, things quickly turned deadly, with all signs pointing to a dispute among the pirates
At 8 a.m. local time, Fox said, a rocket-propelled grenade was fired from the Quest at the Sterett and missed, followed almost immediately by the sound of small arms fire coming from the yacht.
Several pirates then appeared on the yacht deck with their hands up. U.S. naval forces rushed aboard the vessel and found all four Americans had been shot; two pirates also lay dead from gun shot wounds.
The special forces troops tried to provide lifesaving care to the Americans, but they died, Fox said."
@Even Maritime Intelligence calls the above story a bunch of US military lies:
"We have heard threats against the lives of Americans before but it strikes me as being very, very unusual why they would kill hostages outright," said Graeme Gibbon-Brooks, the head of Dryad Maritime Intelligence, adding that the pirates must realize that killing Americans would invite a military response."
@Link: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110223/ap_on_bi_ge/piracy
We all know what US government is doing... They will have no attacks on America or its image without bloodshed. Hostages will be readily sacrificed. US administration will not offer forbearance especially if Americans are across US borders (considered "questionable" activity).
US military has the green light for all trigger-happiness.
How will I know if I hear the truth? Easy. When it rings true.
@And there it is. Infernal Disaster blaming the hostages for sailing in international waters. Infernal Disaster blaming sailors for getting killed. Infernal Disaster blaming sailors for US military opening fire on their captors -- when if left alone they would live.
@FINALLY... Stay on topic:
US MILITARY OBVIOUS LIES ABOVE
@Los Mojados - Go eat some beans. Dozens of other countries, including UK, have had hostages taken by Somali pirates. NONE of the other countries have set their militaries in firing on pirates, and NONE have lost hostages to murder by pirates.
Eat a double portion of beans -- and then maybe youll be sleeping through my next post, you hostage hating bean-eater.
Answer: Here is the truth:
Sometime the military cannot save everyone despite their best efforts. If criminals are determined to kill, they will.
The better question is, why would anyone sail a Yacht in an area that is well known to be the hunting ground of pirates?

US sources: Turkeys sharp economic downswing undercuts its regional status
DEBKAfile Exclusive Report September 4, 2011, 9:55 AM (GMT+02:00) Tags:
Friday, Ankara expelled the Israeli ambassador, suspended defense contracts with Jerusalem, announced legal action against senior Israeli figures in European courts, threatened to bring the dispute before the international court and “take measures for freedom of maritime movement in the Mediterranean.”
Israel continued to brush off the Turkish ultimatum to apologize for the nine deaths and end the Gaza blockade. Hurriyet quoted an unnamed Israeli official as replying: "They can go to hell. They will see what respecting international maritime law means when… our navy sails into the international waters of the Mediterranean."
US sources told debkafile that the Erdogan governments outpouring of vindictive misinformation with a view to upsetting relations between the Obama administration and the Israeli government would cut no ice. Mixing in American domestic politics to misdirect its international crises was a dangerous game.
The Turkish Navy, they added, is no match for Israeli missile boat technology and their electronic jamming and tracking systems. Neither do the Turks have advanced submarines like Israels German-made Dolphins or close air cover.
US sources following the dispute also dismissed as hollow Davutoglus follow-up threat Saturday, Sept. 3: "If Israel persists with its current position," he warned, "the Arab spring will give rise to a strong Israel opposition as well as the debate on the authoritarian regimes."
Washington sources condemned such statements as beyond the acceptable diplomatic bounds. "It sounds as though Ankara is threatening to stir up the Palestinian and Israeli Arab populations against the Israeli government and army. If thats what Davutoglu meant to say, Turkey is sailing very close to the wind and risks President Obama and European governments suspending their participation in NATO operations in the Middle East.
Should Israel complain to the UN Security Council about Turkish war threats and the incitement to revolt by one UN member against another, Western powers would vote for a resolution of condemnation against Turkey.

Is the Famous Maritime Mystery "Mary Celeste" true?
I came across this in wikipedia, when I was looking for the meaning of "a closed mouth gains no foot" in the idiom category (random things I wanted to find out), and I saw "Mary Celeste" as a idiom, and I wonder what could it mean, and it was a ship that had left all its Crew disappeared but the ship was in perfect condition during 1861 to 1885, the idiom meant "ghost ship" and it was the Greatest Maritime Mystery of All Time...
This is the timeline said on wikipedia:
1861 – Amazon built in Nova Scotia, Canada
1867 – Driven ashore in a storm in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia
1869 – Salvaged, repaired, and sold to an American owner. Renamed Mary Celeste
1872 – Set sail from New York City to Genoa, Italy on November 7
1872 – Last entry in captains logbook dated November 24
1872 – Last entry on ships slate dated November 25
1872 – Ship found abandoned on December 4
1885 – Ship wrecked on reef captained by Parker on January 3
2001 – Remains of wreck re-discovered off coast of Haiti (disputed)
I find this interesting, puzzling, and very scary (I dont know, I think its the picture shown in wikipedia upon discovery (link below)
Does anyone find this interesting and frightening?
Does anyone knows this Mystery? (I just find out today)
and wonder if this is true about the proposed theories? (as to me the only theory that makes a bit sense is the risk of explosion in the ship, but that seemed farfetched too despite the given proven of evidence), I think, to me, leads to a ficitional event such as going through the Berumda Triangle, but it seems unlikely?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Celeste
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Mary_Celeste_engraving.jpg
Answer: Yes, the mystery is real. There was a ship called Mary Celeste (or sometimes written as Marie Celeste), and it was found abandoned.
When I was a kid, I found the story completely bizarre and somewhat frightening, but not any more. The most likely scenario is that something happened on the ship that made the captain believe that the best option was to abandon the ship, possibly with the intention of returning when whatever the threat was had passed, and the lifeboat simply drifted too far and was lost at sea.
The theory that makes the most sense to me is that the cargo they were carrying (some sort of alcohol, if I recall correctly) was giving off some sort of noxious gas or perhaps reacting with the air (I saw a documentary once that suggested that the hold actually belched flame due to a chemical reaction that I can't recall now). They were carrying dangerous cargo, that much is certain, and the lifeboat was missing when the ship was found.
Ships/planes in the Bermuda Triangle tend to disappear completely. That area is prone to sudden storms, many times electrical, and it's not unthinkable that a ship or plane would get caught in a sudden, unexpected storm situation and crash, dragged far from the crash site by strong currents.
Oh, and as a bonus, "A closed mouth gathers no foot" is a play on the saying "put a foot in your mouth", meaning, to misspeak or say something really stupid or awkward. The variation means, "If you keep your mouth shut, you won't be able to stick your foot in it," or, "Keep quiet to avoid saying something stupid".

The discovery has positioned the Jewish state as an exporter, Noble Energy said.
News of the offshore fields, which surfaced in 2010, has increased tensions between the two neighbouring countries which do not have formal maritime borders and sparked an angry exchange of warnings between the two states.

In an interview with As-Safir newspaper published on Thursday, Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblatt called on Lebanon to file a complaint with the UN against Israel if the latter attempts to explore and drill gas from disputed areas of the Mediterranean Sea.
Israeli Infrastructure Minister Uzi Landau said last week that Israel will defend its claims to offshore oil “with all necessary force in the face of all these [Lebanese] threats.”
The Lebanese Parliament in August passed an oil exploration bill, which calls for the establishment of a treasury and a committee to oversee exploration and drilling off Lebanon.
Answer: If you check a map, it is closer to Israel than it is to Lebanon. So, it will probably end up going to Israel. My understanding is that under normal maritime law, the leviathan identified field is pretty clearly part of Israel. Lebanon is asking for an unusually large slice of offshore water.
The real question will be if the field is sufficiently large that the underground field extends into Lebanese territorial waters. Then, they will have to work something out.
They will probably work something out anyway. Lebanon is in no position (financially or technologically to either drill or process the oil. It would probably take them years after the Israelis start just to set up drilling. So, it makes rational sense for them to reach a revenue sharing agreement.
(Naturally, "rationality" does not always / usually win out in that region...)

North Korea Conducts Own Military Drill Near the Disputed Sea. Your thoughts?
November 27, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - North Korean Armed Forces conducted their own military drills near the disputed area and the Yeonpyeong Island the scene of last Thursday’s shelling. Pyongyang Warned the US and S, Korea the Korean Peninsula is on the brink of war due to reckless actions of the south.
US is sending one of its now obsolete post WWII aircraft carriers to the region for today’s joint military drill -- one amongst so many in recent months close to Chinese maritime border. China on Friday issued a stern warning to any outside powers conducting monthly military drills close to its exclusive economic zone. The aircraft carrier George Washington is an ideal target for powerful North Korean Yakhont anti-sea missiles.
Analysts have suggested US should refrain from its threatening postures against powerful North Korea. Some believe the American military adventure on the Korean Peninsula is particularly aimed at curtailing China. Given the current US economic situation it is very much possible that Washington or even Tokyo might be looking at a major confrontation in order to eliminate South Korea’s export driven economy out of the global equation thus boosting their own military-industrial complexes. If a war breakouts on the Korean Peninsula, North Korea would have the power to speedily flatten all major industrial centers across South Korea.
In a tough reaction to the planned US-South Korean war games, Pyongyang called them a crazy military provocation and warned that its response would be confrontation for confrontation and war for war. Since the end of Korean war in 1953, South Korea has depended on the overall US strategy to help market its industrially manufactured goods around the world and for this reason Seoul sees Washington as an ally. But in reality the relation between South Korea and the US could be the one that the Washington is more than willing to sacrifice for its own greater interests.
The following is the latest announcement by North Korea over provocative actins of US and South Korea published on KCNA website:
Taking issue with the army of the DPRK over its due punishment meted to the group for its reckless military provocation.
In this regard, a spokesman for the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea released a statement on Friday.
The recent military provocation by the puppet group is a product of the deliberate and premeditated plot hatched by it to save its smear confrontational campaign from total bankruptcy, tarnish the daily rising might of the DPRK, scuttle the efforts for improving the north-south relations and tide over the domestic and international isolation and crisis, it points out, and says:
The group perpetrated the recent provocation prompted by a sinister calculation that in case the DPRK did not make any reaction it would take it as "a tacit recognition" of the illegal "northern limit line" and make it a fait accompli and in case the DPRK took a military counter-action, it would use it as a pretext for kicking up anti-DPRK smear campaign.
This notwithstanding, the chief executive of south Korea did not bother to cry out for "much stronger punishment" while pulling up the DPRK. This is nothing but last-ditch efforts of those who were hit hard after making hasty provocation.
The prevailing situation clearly proves that the DPRKs warnings and domestic and foreign concerns that the seizure of power by the Lee Myung Bak group of conservatives would bedevil the inter-Korean relations and lead to a war were by no means for nothing.
If the puppet group insists on confrontation with the DPRK, the DPRK does not have any idea of dodging it at all.
It is the temperament of the DPRK to resolutely counter confrontation with confrontation and war with war.
The army and people of the DPRK are now greatly enraged at the provocation of the puppet group while getting fully ready to give a shower of dreadful fire and blow up the bulwark of the enemies if they dare to encroach again upon the DPRKs dignity and sovereignty even in the least.
The group should not run amuck, clearly understanding the will and mettle of the highly alerted army and people of the DPRK to wipe out the enemies.
Escalated confrontation would lead to a war and he who is fond of playing with fire is bound to perish therein.
Gone are the days when verbal warnings are served only.
We will respond to good faith in kind but punish the provocateurs encroaching upon our dignity and sovereignty with resolute and merciless counter-action.

is this a good report on westward expansion?
John. OSullivan once said “And claim is by the right of our manifest destiny to overspread and to possess the whole of the continent which Providence has given us for the development of the great experiment of liberty and federated self-government entrusted to us.”Manifest destiny or westward expansion a political belief that the united States span from the Atlantic to Pacific Ocean. In 1783, the u.s won the American Revolution and with the treaty of Paris we also acquired the Northwest Territories. In 1803 to help finance his war in Europe, napoleon sold the entire Louisiana territory after he lost control of hati for 15 million dollars to the United States almost doubling the size of our country. After the purchase napoleon stated, “This accession of territory affirms forever the power of the United States, and I have given England a maritime rival who sooner or later will humble her pride”. In 1845, the republic of Texas asked the United States to annex the young country in order to clear its debt. One main problem with annexing Texas is that there would be an unbalance number of free and slave states. Never the less, Texas became the 28th state of the United States of America .Mexico was angered by the annexation because of border disputes of Texas. In 1846 after several disputes over the Oregon territory, the u.s and Great Britain sign the Oregon treaty designating the 49th parallel as the border of our countries .In 1846 the United States declared war on Mexico. In 1848, the two long years was over when the u.s captured Mexico City. After the war, Mexico and the u.s sign the treaty of Guadalupe hidalgo. The treaty gave the u.s the Mexican cession which comprises of the current states of California, Nevada, Utah as well as parts of New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming and Arizona of which was about 42% of Mexico’s total land. In 1853 the u.s purchase a strip of land from Mexico to build a Trans –continental railroad for ten million dollars .this purchase completed the westward expansion and the continental United States. Through acquiring, ceding, and purchasing we became the 3rd largest nation in the world.

Admiral Mullen claims unforeseen consequences of attacking Iran - Like what ?
"We have the capacity to do it but we are stretched. My ground forces are very stressed, very worn… On the other hand weve got a very strong strategic reserve in our Air Force and in our Navy and in fact thats a part of the world, its a maritime part of the world, where the emphasis would certainly be on those two forces," explained Adm. Mullen.
Adm. Mullen argued that a war against Iran would set off "unintended" outcomes and endanger US interests in the oil-rich region.
"What I worry about in terms of an attack on Iran is in addition to the immediate effect, the effect of the attack, its the unintended consequences," Mullen said. "So I worry about the responses and I worry about it escalating in ways that we couldnt predict."
"So that kind of option generates a much higher level of risk in terms of outcomes in the region and it really concerns me," he added.
Meanwhile in the White House, President Barack Obama is believed to be drawing up plans to engage Iran in diplomacy over the disputed nuclear program.

Will the labour party oppose any new anti trade union laws?
BTW we already have the most draconian anti trade union laws in Europe.
Alex Gordon, president of the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT):
"All British governments for the last 25 years have breached International Labour Organisation (ILO) Conventions, which define strike action as a fundamental human right.
RMT is currently taking the British government to the European Court of Human Rights for outlawing the right to take sympathetic (or solidarity) action. This was banned as secondary action by Thatchers government in 1985 in breach of international law.
The John Major governments Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992 (TULRCA) required trade unions to identify individual members involved in strikes to employers, even though employers can seek damages against employees for striking.
New Labours Employment Relations Act 1999, made it unfair to dismiss an employee (though not a worker) for taking lawful industrial action within a "protected period" of eight weeks - increased to 12 weeks in 2004.
After 12 weeks however, striking workers can be dismissed with impunity. Even within the 12 weeks workers are not protected against action short of dismissal, for example demotion. Neither can courts compel employers to reinstate wrongfully dismissed employees.
Labour also replaced the requirement for unions to identify individuals on strike with a requirement for unions to provide information to enable employers to identify employees on strike and prepare for strike breaking. Judges interpret this to mean the union must provide a matrix or spreadsheet showing numbers of union members balloted and called on to strike in each workplace and job title.
Since 2009 employers have won numerous High Court injunctions over this requirement. Employers have been able to persuade judges that unions fail to supply sufficiently accurate information in the legal "notice of ballot". It is easy to imagine in most disputes that calculating precise numbers of union members employed in various workplaces or job titles is extremely complex and subject to frequent changes.
Union victory
However, on 4 March 2011 the Appeal Court overturned recent injunctions granted by High Court judges against rail unions Aslef and RMT and demolished legal arguments used to justify them. The judgement went further than John McDonnell MPs Lawful Industrial Action (Minor Errors) Bill last year, which Ed Miliband couldnt bring himself to support at a second reading.
RMT general secretary, Bob Crow described the judgement as "not only a victory for RMTs 80,000 members but also a massive victory for seven million trade unionists in the UK."
The Appeal Court confirmed the right to strike in international law; ILO Conventions 98 and 151 and the European Convention on Human Rights Article 11(1) on freedom of association.
The judgement has bolstered unions such as PCS, NUT, ATL, UCU and Unite representing potentially two million civil servants, teachers, lecturers and other public sector workers seeking to coordinate strike action in defence of services, jobs and pensions on 30 June. "
Answer: I hope so. Mind you, the GMB have promised that if anti-union laws go through, then there will be loads of civil disobedience.
I work in healthcare and part of my job involves helping people who have problems at work. One thing I have noticed is that those who are part of a union get treated by employers far better than those who are not.
Any action against unions will damage people who work while helping employers exploit them. And that will not be right.

Canadians: Is the Canada-Denmark "Hans Island" dispute officially resolved?
Brief history from Hans Island, wikipedia:
(basically the island is right in the center of a boundary that a computer program had not specified is part of Greenland or Northern Canada)
In 1972, a team consisting of personnel from the Canadian Hydrographic Service and Danish personnel working in the Nares Strait determined the geographic coordinates for Hans Island. During negotiations between Canada and Denmark on Northern maritime boundaries in 1973, Canada claimed that Hans Island was part of its territory. No agreement was reached
According to Kenn Harper he met a man wearing a hat with bold letters around the side of the hat saying "HANS ISLAND, N.W.T.". This man was a scientist with Dome Petroleum who had just spent the summer on the island doing ice research. Dome Petroleum did research on and around the island from 1980 to 1983.
In 1984, the Danish Minister for Greenland planted the Danish flag on the Island and left a little message saying "Velkommen til den danske ø" (English: Welcome to the Danish Island).[4]
The issue came to light on March 25, 2004, when Adrian Humphreys of the Canadian National Post newspaper wrote an article entitled "Five-year plan to put footprints in the snow and assert northern sovereignty". Humphreys made a brief mention of the dispute over Hans Island, and that the Danes had sent warships to the island.
March 17, 2007 - Scientists from the University of Toronto and the Technical University of Denmark announced plans to install an automated weather station on the island, some time in the summer of 2007.[21]
July, 2007 - Canada updates satellite photos and recognizes international border as crossing through the middle of Hans Island, not to the east of the island as previously claimed.[8]
NOW, I dont see anything about a peace agreement, just a weather station....
So isnt this basically like the North Korea VS South Korea situation? Except it would be East Hans Island and West Hans Island?
And a demilitarized zone like the DMZ dividing the Koreas? And sure enough there are no flights from East Hans to West Hans and so its just like the Korea.... theres gonna be nukes and mines and millions of troops on Hans Island and any movement from the Danes will cause Canadians to attack???
Answer: Seriously Eric.....
