ABC REPORTS Latino Gang Charged With Racial Cleansing Attacks in California Town WHAT DO YOU THINK?
A Latino gang accused of attempting a racial cleansing of African Americans in Azusa, Calif., has been indicted for a federal rights conspiracy, according to the U.S. Attorneys office.
Prior federal cases involving street gangs have included racial violence allegations, but this indictment is only the second time in history that federal civil rights laws have been used against members of a criminal street gang.
"Azusa 13 waged a campaign of hate against African Americans—a two-decade crime spree in which African-Americans were harassed and attacked," said Andre Birotte Jr., the U.S. Attoreny for the Central District of California.
A federal grand jury issued a 24-count indictment last week that charges the 51 defendants with a broad range of crimes including extortion, robbery and murder.
The three-year investigation of the Varrio Azusa 13 gang culminated this week in an early morning raid involving almost 400 law enforcement officials. Azusa is a city of 45,000 people located about 30 minutes northeast of Los Angeles. Only 3 percent of this population is African American, while over 65 percent is Hispanic.
"What is underlying this whole thing is a belief held by some people that the Mexican Mafia ordered essentially a racial cleansing in some Latino neighborhoods," said Thom Mrozek, the public affairs officer for the U.S. Attorneys Office.
This gang has been active for about 20 years acting through violence, threats and intimidation, court papers claim. The violence has not been restricted to rival gang members, extending also to regular civilians.
"This has been a 20 year conspiracy to violate the civil rights of African Americans in the city," said Detective Robert Landeros of the Azusa Police Department. There are incidents involving this gang from 1992 to May 2010, according to the Azusa police.
Six members of the Azusa gang have been charged with civil rights violations for harassing and sometimes attacking African Americans, either to push them out of the city or to keep them from moving there.

Answer: Sounds like a story right out Mexico. Why is it, when latinos create civil rights violations, you never see any groups like La Raza speaking out about matters like this nor do you see any supporters saying anything about a matter like this either. It seems they refuse to believe latinos do wrong and will never admit it.If this we're Mexicans Calif would have wide spread protests about breaking up families, fear of police, when Mexicans do it, everybody who supports illegals never makes any comments ?

Supporters say US Rushing to judgment again federal racketeering indictment state drug charges & immigration?
LOS ANGELES (MMD Newswire) January 21, 2011 -- A joint federal-state law enforcement operation Wednesday morning led to the arrest of 27 people linked to a Los Angeles-area street gang known as Lennox 13, some of whom are named in a federal racketeering indictment that alleges the gang is a criminal enterprise that has engaged in violent crimes, extortion and narcotics trafficking.
A number of those taken into custody Wednesday face federal charges, others will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorneys Office for prosecution on various offenses, and some are allegedly illegal immigrants who face criminal prosecution and deportation.
Wednesdays operation involved nearly 500 law enforcement personnel, including agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcements (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations, and resulted from an 18-month investigation by the federal Southern California Drug Task Force and the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department. The centerpiece of the investigation is an 11-count indictment that alleges violations of the federal Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act. The indictment charges 15 defendants, with six of those being named in the RICO count. Nine of the defendants named in the RICO indictment were taken into custody this morning, and two were already in state custody.
Additionally, authorities arrested one woman on a federal weapons charge, eight on state narcotics charges, five on probation violations, two on federal criminal charges of illegal re-entry after deportation, and two on suspicion of being illegal aliens.
The investigation into Lennox 13 was conducted by the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department - Gang and Narcotics Enforcement Team and the Southern California Drug Task Force, which includes special agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and IRS - Criminal Investigation. The Southern California Drug Task Force operates within the High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) program, which is designed to enhance and coordinate efforts among local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.
The federal indictment that led to Wednesdays takedown focuses on Lennox 13, a street gang formed in the mid-1960s by Mexican-Americans in the Lennox area of unincorporated Los Angeles County. Lennox 13 now consists of approximately 650 members, with approximately 250 members regularly conducting criminal activities. The "13" stands for the letter M and was added to the gangs name about 20 years ago when it became associated with the Mexican Mafia.
The indictment alleges that drug sales comprised the bulk of the gangs profits. In the gangs territory, just east of Los Angeles International Airport, narcotics were typically sold by street-level dealers who were allowed to sell drugs within the gangs territory if they paid regular "rent" or "tax" to the gang. In exchange for the tax payments, Lennox 13 members protected the drug dealers from robbers and competitors. The indictment also alleges that the gang generated money through routine extortions of legitimate business owners operating in territory claimed by Lennox 13.
The gang allegedly paid a tax to the Mexican Mafia, which provided protection to Lennox 13 members in the prison system. In addition to the tax paid to the Mexican Mafia, the indictment alleges that the gang used the profits of its illegal activities to purchase weapons and drugs, pay attorneys fees for gang members who have been charged with crimes, contribute to funeral costs for gang members who have been killed, and deposit money into the prison accounts of incarcerated gang members.
The RICO conspiracy charge in the indictment alleges a series of specific overt acts, including assaults and narcotics transactions.

Arrested but never charged - background check question?
When I was 14 I was falsely arrested at my school. A paid, untrained, "hall monitor" identified me as the perp in a felony attempt two weeks earlier on another student. Despite his repeated attempts to tell the school that I was not the right person, this hall monitor insisted that the school call the police because obviously "the kid is just too scared to point him out". Yup, thats it. Nothing to do with me not being the the right person. The cops came, I got arrested, fingerprinted, and this is where my confusion begins.
Was I actually ever charged or will my record just state that I was arrested?
I have documentation from the District Attorney stating "that no formal charges have been filed as of yet" and then about 2 months later I received a hand written letter on an official piece of paper from the D.A. and another official document stating that "they have decided not to file a petition (charges) and that I would not have to appear in court". It also states "This matter will be closed and sealed" according to some Family Court Act they have. In fact, I was so innocent that the school apologized and expunged my record of suspension - I have a certified letter for that too.
Now, I know that none of this will ever show up for regular employment but what will it say for government searches? I intend to join the military as an officer and I know no matter what this piece of information will be seen since I was fingerprinted.
What will the background check say? I have no idea what I was arrested for because I was never charged. Will it go based on what the police arrested me for or will it just say I was arrested or what?
The hall monitor who ruined my life claims I wanted money from the kid. On the suspension sheet the school wrote up it says that "I asked him for money". Part of me thinks I heard the word extortion mentioned and I know thats a felony. So, do the police have any input into what is on the background check?
If the D.A. never charged me at all, what will my check say? I really need some info on this. I thought it could only say something if you were charged.
I appreciate the responses and normally, the first 2 replies would be right but not for government agency checks. Any incident involving fingerprinting shows up, from what I understand.
Answer: We can't answer this question. You need to go down to the police department and ask it there. It sounds from your description like you were never charged, but it is also quite clear from your description that you are fairly clueless as to what was going on.
You need someone to look and see if you have a police record. The people to do that are the police.
For future reference, when asking questions, it is best to ask people who have the answers.
Just sayin'!

Im being charged for a service Im not receiving? ?
So I live in an apartment complex that only allows me to have directv so since my apartment can not receive any Satellite signal I have to be part of another system for my apartment complex! So I have two bills for one service. I canceled with my directv on dec 2 and my other system for me to use their Satellite still charged me for two months Im disputing this transaction because I was not receiving any service. They told me I still need to pay for it because I did not call them and cancel with them! Im confused this seems like extortion. I assumed it would cancel each other!
Answer: You need to call both carriers and cancel with both of them that way you have backup on who you talked to and when. If the satellite system is not a part of DirecTV, which it doesn't sound like it is, then you should have called them to cancel. How would your satellite company know you cancelled you DirecTV?

How do I handle the crisis with a roommates demand $500 as a "buyout" to dissolve lease agreement?
There was a recent flood (ceiling pipe) in the apt unit and we (the roommate and me) moved next door two weeks ago.
The apartment management offer a lease break free of charge because of the incident. We are "eager" but the problem is the roommate who have a joint rental lease agreement with me demands $500.00 as a buyout in order to obtain his signature so that both of us are let go simultaneously without affecting credit score.
Im currently unemployed and am financially anxious. I swear the roommate just bought Xbox 360 Premium and a couple games ($500 value) the third week of March before he made the demand.
I tried reason with him but he refuse to listen.
Does "buyout under circumstance of pressure" constitute extortion & illegal?
If I am forced to pay him the amount in order to get his signature on joint lease break agreement to leave the apartment & I have money order stub as proof of payment, should I file a small claims complaint accusing him of extortion? (Legal advice)
Answer: It certainly sounds like extortion but your best bet is to NOT pay him. Even if you did take him to court and win, that doesnt mean he is going to pay you, and youll have wasted more money as well as time.
Your credit wont suffer, I mean the points will go down a little, yes, but youll have other things that you can keep paying on time and itll even out, if not get higher.
Good Luck!

Followers of Rabbi Blame an Ex-Aide for a Congregations Missing Millions
Six years ago, an Orthodox rabbi and mystic who traces his lineage to King David moved to New York from Israel and amassed a notable following. Real estate titans fetched him at the airport. Members of Congress attended his Hebrew classes. Even LeBron James, who is not Jewish, borrowed a friends yacht to consult the rabbi in private. Lately - Federal authorities are investigating the claims of mystic and Orthodox Rabbi Yoshiyahu Yosef Pintos followers in New York, that Ofer Biton a former aide to the rabbi stole the millions of dollars missing from their congregation; also claim that Ronn Torossian, a public relations agent, engaged in a scheme in which they leaked purportedly damaging information about the rabbi to reporters. What can I do if I feel that Im being charged way too much money?
My water heater broke down and I called the only company in the area that deals with my model; they placed me on a waiting list of 2/3 weeks - any sooner and a costlier emergency call-out charge would have applied.
They came and fixed the problem in their own time (i.e. after 2 weeks) - it took them 10-20mins and then they sat in their van after for a further 20mins.
The bill has come through for £65 plus VAT - a standard charge for servicing. For the time it took them to complete the task this seems way too much money; and given gas appliances are governed by health and safety laws, it also feels like extortion. I didnt really have a choice in dealing with this company - it was a case of contacting them or having no hot water.
What can I do if I feel theyre charging me too much? I have worked it out and they really should only be charging £20 (£25 at tops) for the work which simply involved cleaning the parts (as no parts were replaced)? My estimate is based on the labour costs for the two workers and the travel costs incurred.
Is my only option to pay it? What would you do? Are there any other options?
This is what my estimate is based on:
£20/hour each worker (which is a high rate of pay due to expertise). The work took a maximum of 20mins - so £7 for each worker; there were two so call it £14 in wages. Then travel expenses - no more than about £6. This comes to £20. An extra £5 would be their profits.
As a customer I couldnt care less about their insurance, building rates, etc - it was their choice as to whether to be based in a building or not; many companies choose not to be.
The way I see it they should be serving me not the other way round. I shouldnt have to wait on them and I shouldnt have to pay them excessive charges; they chose that line of work and they should be willing to give the customer a fair deal particularly during a recession.
Answer: & you work for free then? So glad your not my client:):)

Which one of the following is an example of a valid argument?
A-The defendant is a felon with a history of extortion.Therfore, the defendant is guilty if theft in this case.
B-The defendants fingerprints and DNA were found on the assault weapon. Two witnesses saw him commit the crime. The evidence points to the defendants guilt.
C-The defendant denies the charges. He insists that the guilty party was a woman who falsely assumed his identity. This happened before.
D-The police cant find the murderer. Therefore,it must have been a suicide.
Answer: B.
A is invalid because the "evidence" does not demonstrate probable guilt. Prior convictions have no relevance to whether or not the defendant is guilty.
C is not making an argument, so far as I see. It is merely a description of what the defendant said.
D is not valid because the conclusion is not the only explanation for the premise.

What do you think of this Girl Rescued From Human Smugglers:?
Two men are in custody after allegedly kidnapping a Guatemalan girl and extorting the girl’s mother.
Investigators say that on June 28, a woman contacted the Trenton Police and reported that her 15-year-old daughter had been kidnapped.
The woman had paid to have her daughter brought to the U.S. from Guatemala. Once the girl arrived in Texas, police say that two men kidnapped her. They then allegedly demanded large sums of money over several days from the girl’s mother in exchange for the girl’s safe transport to Trenton.
The mother told police that she made initial payments to the alleged kidnappers but her daughter was never delivered. The mother also told police that her daughter was hungry and frightened.
On June 29, two Trenton Police Detectives interviewed the mother. During the interview, authorities say that the alleged kidnappers contacted her. Police say that the suspects made arrangements for a final extortion payment for her kidnapped daughter at a truck stop near the N.J. turnpike entrance in Bordentown.
The detectives contacted Special Agents from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Immigration & Customs (ICE) who joined the investigation.
The investigators then followed the woman as she made her way to the drop-off point. Once she arrived, police say the two alleged kidnappers met her. Investigators say that she then made the final extortion payment and was reunited with her daughter. The ICE Agents and the Trenton Police then moved in and took the two alleged kidnappers into custody.
Investigators say that the first suspect identified himself as Eddie Garcia, 25. According to police, Garcia couldn’t provide a valid form of ID or a valid address. Authorities could not confirm his identity and he was docketed as a John Doe. Garcia is charged with theft by extortion.
Police say that the second suspect identified himself as Jose A. Luis-Hernandez, 27. Investigators identified Luis-Hernandez as a Honduran national. He was docketed for an extortion charge and was issued a detainer by the ICE agents.
Investigators also found seven illegal immigrants inside the vehicle of the two suspects. Authorities believe that they were smuggled into the U.S. and transported to various drop-off points.
Homeland Security took the illegal immigrants into custody for processing.
Authorities say that the investigation is ongoing.

is this a form of illegal extortion? Will I lose my job for reporting this?
when I had a $5 discrepancy on a customer’s check, Bob, the manager on duty, made me pay it out of my own pocket. I did not think that this was standard procedure, but feeling intimidated, and in order to avoid any conflict, I felt I had no choice and paid the $5.( I later found out this was a standard policy.)
Shortly after that, Bob approached me about the color of my socks. When he discovered that I was wearing white instead of black, he said that he was going to write me up. However, he said that in order to avoid being written up, I could pay him $2. Again, feeling intimidated, confused and helpless, I paid him the money. Upon receipt of the money, Bob returned it to me, saying that I had already given him $5 that night and he thought that the $2 “would come back to bite” him if he kept the money.
In addition to these two incidents, Bob went on to tell me that if he catches anyone using their cell phone at work, he would charge them $5. Now I understand and agree with a ban of cell phones at the workplace, and have never used one while on the job. However, this is another example of Bobs pattern of extortion and abuse of his subordinates.
Answer: Having a discrepancy from a customer and having to pay out of pocket is pretty much standard practice everywhere. Charging money for violations such as "wrong color sock or "cell phone violations" is inappropriate and should be reported. Bob is within his authority to write people up for violations but he crosses the line when he starts charging money. What he is doing is a form of extortion, but not legalized. So, if you lose you job for reporting obviously what is an illegal practice, get yourself an attorney, you have a case.

how do i file/press charges of blackmail/extortion against a person?
How do I file a personal (not corporate) suit against another person for blackmailing me into signing a written agreement promising to pay $16,000 for things I do not owe to this person. I was threatened with a charge or criminal trespassing. the basis of this threat--she and I previously lived in a house she bought and both had keys;we moved out months ago but hadnt removed all the property from the premises;we made verbal (and texted) agreements for me to go get the rest of my things from the house and as I was in the car heading out to the house(she was going to go as well to get some of her things),she told me she wasnt gonna go til the following day; I still went&got the majority of my personal belongings, but not all since some couldnt fit in my car all in one trip; i told her i got most but not all of my things, a day or two later, she called verbally threatening criminal charges unless I promised to pay unheard-of amount of money for unknown and so-called "owed" expenses.
Answer: It sounds more like a contract entered under duress. She can't prevent you from going to get your stuff, and she has no grounds for criminal trespass if you have a key, your name was on the lease, and there is no legal reason (court order, restraining order, etc.) that prohibits you from being on the premises.
If she can't provide an itemized accounting of the "owed" money, she's SOL. If she prevents you from getting her stuff, you can probably sue her for conversion and file charges for theft.
Tell her to pound sand up her @$$, and go get your stuff...

Brian Cashmans accused stalker, Louise Meanwell, tells wild tale saying Yankees GM misled feds on steroid probe
The woman accused of stalking and blackmailing Yankees GM Brian Cashman has injected steroids into the sordid mix.
From Rikers Island, Louise Meanwell claimed Wednesday that Cashman told her he misled federal investigators over what the Bombers’ brass knew of steroid use by players.
Meanwell, who claims she had an affair with Cashman, told the Daily News that Cashman confided to her that he was grilled in June or July by “the feds.”
She said Cashman told her he made it seem like the Yankees had no knowledge of players’ steroid use when, in fact, they did.
Cashman’s spokesman Chris Giglio vehemently denied the accusations.
“These claims are complete and utter fiction, the latest installment of a carefully concocted campaign of harassment now spewing from a jail cell by a person who is being held on serious criminal felony charges of harassment and extortion,” Giglio said.
Meanwell, 36, who also goes by the name Louise Neathway, was arrested Feb. 1 outside her Tribeca apartment. She is charged with aggravated harassment, stalking and grand larceny in the explosive case.
She is being held at Rikers on $200,000 bail.
ACCUSED STALKER CALLS CASHMAN A LIAR
Prosecutors charge Meanwell extorted $6,000 from Cashman and attempted to blackmail him for $15,000 more by threatening to go public and trash his reputation.
She’s accused of bombarding Cashman with hundreds of emails and demanding he pay up.
A judge granted orders of protection requiring Meanwell to avoid contacting Cashman, his estranged wife, Mary, and their two children.
Meanwell, a British citizen, has a long history of stalking and harassment, with cases dating back to 1998.
At least nine other people, including her ex-husband, Jason Bump, their teenage daughter and her psychiatrist also have restraining orders against her.
A friend of Meanwell’s told The News he sent an email to federal investigators advising them of her claims.
The friend said he sent the email to Ron Gardella, chief investigator for the U.S. Attorneys Office for the Southern District of New York, and FBI agent Brian Jacob.
The email, obtained by The News, went on to say that Meanwell had “specific details” on dates and times that Cashman was aware of steroid use by players.
Both the FBI and the U.S. Attorney’s office refused to confirm or deny that Meanwell had informed them of her claims.
Cashman was on prosecutors witness list for Roger Clemens’ trial on perjury charges last July before Judge Reggie Walton declared a mistrial on the first day of the proceedings in Washington. Walton has scheduled a new trial for April.
Clemens is charged with three counts of making false statements and two counts of perjury. The charges stem from his February 2008 testimony before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform in which he denied ever having used performance-enhancing drugs.
Prosecutors had placed Cashman on the witness list because he hired Clemens’ chief accuser, Brian McNamee, as a strength coach in 2000 at Clemens’ behest.
Answer: While the basis that there may have been people in the organization who misled the MLB in the steroid case, I highly doubt cashman was solely to blame. I think she is just frustrated that he didn't want to be with her and his just twisting the information that she has.
And Matt, that is BS and just as bad as this chick calling out cashman. People in the bleachers are not that bad.

How is outrageous child support payments not considered extortion?
Extortion is defined as:
1. law obtaining something by illegal threats: the crime of obtaining something such as money from somebody using illegal methods of persuasion
2. excessive charging: the charging of an excessive amount of money for something
3. getting something by force: the acquiring of anything through the use of force or threats
it appears that child support meets all of these criteria for extortion. That is except for number one in which illegal should be replaced with should be illegal
Even if number one is questionable it defiantly meets numbers two and three.
M R: I agree 100% that it is all about $$$, the dollar signs. There would be no custody disputes if there was no child support. I find the argument funny in that some claim a man files for 50%+ in order to lower child support. OK true in some cases but the other side of the coin is that lots of women file for full custody in order to ensure a pay check for the next 18 years and then some.
curious:
You have a good point. As of right now my personal situation is that there is no child support ordered, yet. We will see. I ask this question because I have talk to many men who do have crazy amounts of CS to be paid. If you look at my previous question you would see that I got an estimation for how much child support would be in certain circumstances.
Lori: OK your words are marked. I put them on my C drive so that when I meet your god I can pull them up.
Answer: I hear ya. I'm all for supporting our children but I've never once in all my childrens' lives spent 28% of my monthly income on them. I pay my rent, gas, and electric whether I have kids or don't. That leaves food, clothing, and medical. Most of us carry medical coverage so that one is out. Most people I know pay around $400+ a month. I better have some well dressed, fat ass kids for that kind of money.
When I divorced I ignored the state guidelines and I set the support at a reasonable amount of $125 a month. There was no reason for my ex to supply me with more than a fair share of what it cost me each month for the kids.
Edit: Did you notice how the women attacked fathers? Pay attention ladies. I am the custodial parent. My ex's pay me child support. State guidelines said they should be paying about 3x's what I KNOW I spend on my children each month.
These laws were set when men were typically the non custodial parents. It IS unreasonable to punish the non custodial parent by making them pay for MORE than 1/2 of what it REALLY takes to raise a child. Cell phones are not required. Designer clother are not required. A new Mustang is not required. Weekly manacure's are not required. Face it ladies, we must feed and cloth our children. Educate them and make sure all basic needs are taken care off. That should be the extent to what is REQUIRED by the laws.

Can Barak Obama be charged under the RICO Act for his involvement with ACORN? (Legal requirements below)?
"RICO Act" = Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization Act
Racketeering = the operation of an illegal business enterprise
("Illegal business enterprise" used to mean mafia, but federal courts have substantially expanded the definition to include any illegal activity, including sex, drugs, extortion, money laundering, counterfeiting AND ALL FORMS OF FRAUD.)
Requirements for conviction under this statute:
--two criminal offenses of this description in any 10 year period
--threat of continued illegal activity
How many times has ACORN faced fraud charges and been convicted?
Have ACORN activities been curtailed or has Obama expanded their duties under government grants? Is there a threat of continued activity?
If the president uses his office to EMPOWER a proven criminal enterprise, how is he different from a mafia don?
Although Obama =/= ACORN, the RICO Act also specifically prohibits conspiracy to conduct an illegal enterprise as a felony in order to empower law enforcement to go after family heads who arent directly involved inspecific crimes themselves.
What say you?
BLMD: ACORN doesnt need to be charged. In the case "Cedric Promotions vs. Don King, King was convicted as a person RELATED TO the criminal enterprise.
CORRECTION:
The law does not require CONVICTION of two counts in ten years, it only requires PROOF of two specific acts in ten years.
(Historically, the Supreme has always struck down efforts to narrow the use of the RICO Act.)
Answer: No, and it won't happen. I don't like Obama either but instead of wasting time and effort on petty stuff like this, we need to be getting our ducks in a row and letting people know exactly what he's doing to our country and supporting those individuals who will run against him and do what's right for the country. Things like this make those of us who want to get him out of office look like idiots.
