A riddle - A taxi driver is coming home early....?
A taxi driver is coming home early to surprise his wife for her birthday when he is flagged down by a young man.
What the hell. He thinks. One last job and then Ill go home. The young man gets in the taxi, gives the driver an address and thanks him profusely. He tells the driver that it is important that he isnt late. They drive on making pleasant small talk for a few minutes, then the cabbie drives into the woods, drags the man out of the car and kills him. The taxi driver is usually a very placid man. Why did he kill his passenger?
Answer: let me guess, the passenger is having an affair with the taxi-driver's wife and was going to the cabbies house to give his wife a little something for her B'day

Did you know our political correctness runs the risk of undermining our US society?
A minor issue at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) has potentially major implications for the future of Islam in the United States.
Starting about a decade ago, some Muslim taxi drivers serving the airport declared, that they would not transport passengers visibly carrying alcohol, in transparent duty-free shopping bags, for example. This stance stemmed from their understanding of the Korans ban on alcohol. A driver named Fuad Omar explained: "This is our religion. We could be punished in the afterlife if we agree to [transport alcohol]. This is a Koran issue. This came from heaven." Another driver, Muhamed Mursal, echoed his words: "It is forbidden in Islam to carry alcohol."
The issue emerged publicly in 2000. On one occasion, 16 drivers in a row refused a passenger with bottles of alcohol. This left the passenger - who had done nothing legally wrong - feeling like a criminal. For their part, the 16 cabbies lost income. As Josh L. Dickey of the Associated Press put it, when drivers at MSP refuse a fare for any reason, "they go to the back of the line. Waaaay back. Past the terminal, down a long service road, and into a sprawling parking lot jammed with cabs in Bloomington, where drivers sit idle for hours, waiting to be called again."
To avoid this predicament, Muslim taxi drivers asked the Metropolitan Airports Commission for permission to refuse passengers carrying liquor - or even suspected of carrying liquor - without being banished to the end of the line. MAC rejected this appeal, worried that drivers might offer religion as an excuse to refuse short-distance passengers.
The number of Muslim drivers has by now increased, to the point that they reportedly make up three-quarters of MSPs 900 cabdrivers. By September 2006, Muslims turned down an estimated three fares a day based on their religious objection to alcohol, an airport spokesman, Patrick Hogan, told the Associated Press, adding that this issue has "slowly grown over the years to the point that its become a significant customer service issue."
"Travelers often feel surprised and insulted," Mr. Hogan told USA Today.
With this in mind, MAC proposed a pragmatic solution: drivers unwilling to carry alcohol could get a special color light on their car roofs, signaling their views on alcohol to taxi starters and customers alike. From the airports point of view, this scheme offers a sensible and efficient mechanism to resolve a minor irritant, leaving no passenger insulted and no driver losing business. "Airport authorities are not in the business of interpreting sacred texts or dictating anyones religious choices," Hogan points out. "Our goal is simply to ensure travelers at [the airport] are well served." Awaiting approval only from the airports taxi advisory committee, the two-light proposal will likely be in operation by the end of 2006.
But on a societal level, the proposed solution has massive and worrisome implications. Namely, the two-light plan intrudes the Shari‘a, or Islamic law, with state sanction, into a mundane commercial transaction in Minnesota. A government authority thus sanctions a signal as to who does or does not follow Islamic law.
What of taxi drivers beyond those at MSP? Other Muslims in Minneapolis-St. Paul and across the country could well demand the same privilege. Bus conductors might follow suit. The whole transport system could be divided between those Islamically observant and those not so.
Why stop with alcohol? Muslim taxi drivers in several countries already balk at allowing seeing-eye dogs in their cars. Future demands could include not transporting women with exposed arms or hair, homosexuals, and unmarried couples. For that matter, they could ban men wearing kippas, as well as Hindus, atheists, bartenders, croupiers, astrologers, bankers, and quarterbacks.
MAC has consulted on the taxi issue with the Minnesota chapter of the Muslim American Society, an organization the Chicago Tribune has established is devoted to turning the United States into a country run be Islamic law. The wife of a former head of the organization, for example, has explained that its goal is "to educate everyone about Islam and to follow the teachings of Islam with the hope of establishing an Islamic state."
It is precisely the innocuous nature of the two-light taxi solution that makes it so insidious - and why the Metropolitan Airports Commission should reconsider its wrong-headed decision.
Answer: I agree with the sentiment, but this is not political correctness. If their religious views preclude the performance of their job, then they need to seek a different type of job...not demand that society adhere to restrictions of the services for which the company exsists in the first place.

London taxi drivers, best in the world?
I can attest to being all over the world, and having the miserable duty to use public transportation in these cities and towns, BUT in London it is a totally different situation. It is always a surprise that these guys are so knowledgeable and have a lot of self respect about their personal appearance and the cleanliness of the Taxi cabs. Most appear to be highly educated and truly enjoy driving a cab. Here in the states 9 times out of 10 you will get a filthy cab driven by someone who can not really understand English, and you must suffer through a concert of Islamic music while you hang out of the window to try to breath some fresh air. I wonder of the salary and vetting process in London is so good that it attracts the best of the best? what is the secret?

An Assassin Remembered.
Let me tell you a story about someone. Most don’t know him, and only the dead have seen his face. I may be the only person, on the face of this earth, to have known him. He’s a person forgotten, a murderer remembered. He likes to be called an assassin, and his story starts here; so does it end.
His body was left to rot, in the shade of the building, moonlight sparkling in the water. He got up, his head heavy from the fumes of gasoline. His chest pain was hurting him more than ever. Walking up towards the burned-down gas station, our anti-hero takes out his partially burnt cell phone and dials 911. When the person on the other side responds, he drops the cellphone and starts running. He got shot, robbed, gagged, beat, and burned in less than 24 hours, yet he lived.
He stayed unconscious enough to see the sun rising and fell into a deep sleep on the road. Several hours later, when the traffic was up, his body was noticed by an oncoming driver, responding in instinct by calling 911. The ambulance took him into intensive care, the doctors became busy taking out several bullets of different sizes. His eyes opened, surprised by the bright surgical lights, he let the surgeons finish their job. The doctors ran several tests on him before he escaped the hospital. His chest pain started acting up when he ran, so he decided to get some clothes and then decide what to do next. He took a taxi downtown, using the money he stole from the receptionist’s purse at the hospital.
There was a car there, blending in with the steel surroundings of the skyscrapers. He took out a key from the bottom of the car trunk. Opening the car, the man got in and took out a briefcase from the back-seat. The contents of the briefcase were only three items. One was a three-piece suit and another was a stainless-steel pistol with an attached muffler. The last item was a silver watch. It seemed as if the man loved the touch of metal.
The car’s built in GPS function lit up when he started the ignition. In a synthesized voice, the computer asked the man where his choice of destination was. He replied “The Chrysler Building.” Pushing his seat all the way back, he slept holding his automatic pistol, and the car driving silently in the dead of the night.
I am writing a story about an assassin. This is what I came up with so far.... I also dont like my title, need help with that too. Any comments are welcomed and so are titles for my story.

Answer: You do need help. You're putting comma's where there should be periods and too many comma's where there should be none.
Here's part of your story 'fixed.' Read it carefully and follow suit through the rest of your story. Don't let people tell you you're writing is great. Get an opinion from a person who has written for publication or one of your teachers.
Remember, this is fixed.

Go over your wording and make sure you don't have words that may be spelled correctly, but are used incorrectly.
For instance:
His chest pain started acting up when he ran, so he decided to get some clothes and then decide what to do next.
What does clothes have to do with his chest pain? Also, both words should be 'decided.' (decided what to do next) Or (tried to decide what to do next)
How about for a title: Attempt on an Assassin
Good Luck!

Help Proofreading a paragraph for grammatical errors, sentence structure, etc?
I need some help proofreading a paragraph I wrote for a written fairy tale assignment for school (I modernized Beauty and the Beast). Any help would be greatly appreciated:
With just his jacket to button up, Richard walked out of the house. Boom! The
door slammed shut with the wind whistling through the cracks in the door. The girls
did not celebrate that Richard had left, but instead went to their own rooms to read
a book and watch television. Once Richard arrived in Beijing, he was confronted by a
dark, mysterious man that told him, “The deal is off. You can go back home now”.
Richard just went through a thirteen-hour flight just to be told to go back home.
Richard reluctantly took a flight back to Los Angeles the next day and was picked up
by a taxi. The taxi was taking a long time to arrive at Richard’s house, and Richard
became worried that the taxi driver did not know where he was going. One hour
went by, and Richard finally looked out of his window, surprised to see a residential
area nearby. Richard then realized that he was in the bad area of Los Angeles, a
suburb called Compton. “I knew the taxi driver did not know where he was going.
I should have never taken a taxi cab”, Richard vigorously said. Richard was dropped
off in front of a large mansion in the middle of a large piece of land. It was foggy, and
the temperature was slightly above freezing. Richard cautiously walked up to the
house, noticing that the pathway had many cracks that resembled the wrinkles on
his mothers freckled face in her old age.
Ricky, heres part 2:
Richard, not knowing the area
he was in, decided to walk in. He was alert when entering the house, making sure
there were no traps set up. As he walked towards the kitchen, he spotted a note on
the kitchen
table. The note read, “Please help yourself to the roses in the garden.” Richard
remembered that Megan had wanted a rose as her gift, so he decided to go into the
garden. As Richard was searching for the perfect rose, thinking about how happy
Megan will be when she receives the rose, a loud crash was heard from inside of the
house. Richard promptly turned his body around and saw a 7’6” giant crashing
through the back window and yelling, “Get out of my garden now you fool, or I will
soon turn you into a my new swimming pool.” The giant caught the man and told
him that he had to stay locked up in his cellar forever. Richard pleaded with the
giant to let him go, “Please let me go. I was only getting a rose for my daughters’
friend Megan.
Answer: “The deal is off. You can go back home now”.
Should be: “The deal is off. You can go back home now.”
You need to decide whether or not to put a comma (",") between every "and" or not, because you can't keep flip-flopping your sentences with, and without them.
“I knew the taxi driver did not know where he was going.
I should have never taken a taxi cab”, Richard vigorously said.
Should be: “I knew the taxi driver did not know where he was going.
I should have never taken a taxi cab,” Richard vigorously said.
I'm not so sure about your usage of "vigorously." Maybe you can come up with another word to express his frustration?
Richard cautiously walked up to the house, noticing that the pathway had many cracks that resembled the wrinkles on his mothers freckled face in her old age.
Should be: Richard cautiously walked up to the house, noticing that the pathway had many cracks that resembled the wrinkles on his mother's freckled face in her old age.
Mothers = More than one mother.
Mother's = Something belongs to his mother.
It's just a few trivial things, but getting it right will get you a better grade.

Help!!!! I had this really weird, and extremely vivid dream. Any ideas on interpretations??????????????????
I was on a ship that was in a sort of abandoned cove next to a forest. These people-like-species on the boat were saying that when they jumped into the water the fish came to them and they ate the fish. But there was another sort of species they were at war with, when they jumped into the water the fish swam away, and they ate above land.
When one of them was coming I ran down a path, because he could not get me from there, for a reasons . I looked at him from the end of the path, he was about 15 years old and had blonde hair. He did not seem incredibly strong or anything of that sort. But he said something that made me go to him and get back on the vote.
Here the scene shifted a little bit, I think it was still on a boat, but the boy had grown into a man and was the kind of in charge of the woman on the ship. They were kind of slaves but not for sexual endevors, and all seemed relatively happy despite lack of freedom. Although I still think it was on a boat of sorts the interior took on the model of a sort of house. Yet it continued that the woman needed water around to get fish from the water.
We were standing on a sort of balcony with the man, he took some of us to go disco. But we who stayed all got some sort of frozen food, I now assume this was some sort of currency because they could only eat fish.
I remember sticking my head into a room that seemed to be the kids hang out room/garage in my real life house. I had an epiphany and said to the other girls, look, we can use this burrito to pay for a taxi (again, maybe it was currency) out of here. I knew a place away from the ocean on a lake were they could still have there fish.
I tossed the burrito at them but they said no. They said it was because this was the only life they had ever known. The man came back and told us all to put the frozen food back in the cooler.
We all did even though I was thoroughly disappointed that I would have to live like this for the rest of my life. As I was putting one back in the cooler a girl flashed the burrito at me and I took that as a sort of symbol that she was coming with me.
We ran outside and hopped in a taxi. We told the driver just to drive. Than I asked if he could take us to Lake Tahoe and he said “No why don’t we just go home first?” I got a better look at him and than I realized that this was my dad. I wasn’t to surprised by this though.
I don’t remember exactly what happened next but I remember that as we were driving there was fire outside. I don’t exactly remember how I felt about the fire. Then I woke up.
Answer: This one is a head scratcher.
One could say that you are uncertain about your future life and how to handle situations, doing the best you can, but little do you realize that there are people for you to rely on, even if you cannot see it at the time

Can I assume this is just friendly banter?
My son has just started a new school and being taken by taxi to it. The taxi driver seems very friendly and over the last few weeks he seems to be more interested in poking fun at me, winding me up.
He told my son that he was going to tease me and jokes that all women are mad and then said about his wife and how odd she was, then we talked about things and I said thats married life for you and he said I am not married and drove off (he wears a ring on his wedding finger so that comment confused me).
He seems happy to tease me and make my son laugh about it. He gets out of his taxi sometimes to come and chat to me and make jokey comments from what we talked about the week before and then he seemed to up the teasing and came along the road honking his horn to wind me up yesterday. As he left I told my son I was taking him out for a special treat and surprise but wouldnt tell him and as the guy left he he just said something, then the word Saturday, turned his music up and flashed his eyebrows up and down at me and then drove off again.
Is this just good old fashioned banter or is there is a risk that he could be stepping over the mark. He has been very helpful by going that little bit further in his job by meeting me on the other side of town to drop my son off when I have to get to a weekly drama class with my other son (basically drops the other children off first) only because the drama class is round the corner from where my sons school is.
I like having a laugh with him and he does make me smile but I am wondering whether I should back off sometime and just let my son get in the car on his own and not always engage in conversation with him.
Answer: If we would only learn to get in touch with our souls (which is what you truly need to do anyway if you are to become a great actress) then there would never be a need for questions like this because we would instinctively know the answer.
Think about it. You've looked into his eyes. The eyes are truly the windows to the soul. When two people make eye contact their souls become acquainted and the soul is capable of learning more about the other person in an instant than the conscious mind will ever learn in a lifetime. Your soul makes many attempts to communicate with you through your intuition, instincts and feelings so, how do you really feel about him? What is your intuition urging you to do? Trust in your soul.
The trick of course, is not to make any decisions like this using the reason in your conscious mind because your conscious mind is incapable of knowing what the soul is urging you to do. Only your feelings and intuition will lead you the answer. Don't ever try to reason it out as you are doing with this question. Meditation will be the best help when you are unsure of what your feelings and intuition are really saying. So, ask that question of your soul, then quiet your mind and wait for an answer. I wish you well.

longliveabcdefg, Obama does have issues...
if i point them out will i be labelled a racist?...
Answer: The reality is racism does exist in every country and city. With 7 million people in Hong Kong, it's hard not to find any at all. In the United States where their population is most integrated, even their black President gets a lot of racial teasing and criticism, there are Americans who claim they believe the black President is born in Kenya Africa. I don't think there is racial tensions in Hong Kong, those are individual incidents where uneducated people don't understand skin color has nothing to do with integrity. People tend to complain when they don't get respected but would seldom give accolades when they are. There are many other South Asians who don't feel racially ostracized and don't get reported.
additional: Obama is not perfect. I am only referring to questioning his place of birth, this claim is just baseless.

Somalia’s Rebels Embrace Twitter as a Weapon
NAIROBI, Kenya — Think of it as the Battle of the Tweets. Somalia ’s powerful Islamist insurgents, the Shabab , best known for chopping off hands and starving their own people, just opened a Twitter account, and in the past week they have been writing up a storm, bragging about recent attacks and taunting their enemies. “Your - By JEFFREY GETTLEMAN
Why was the anna nicole judge so reviled in the media? Is it just fun to complain about people in public?
Why has this guy been subjected to extreme slander in the media? Example: ABC TV kept repeating that the judge of this particular proceeding was a "taxi driver turned judge." But hold on. ---The judge is 56 years old. He graduated from law school at age 25, one of the youngest people to do so and be accepted by the bar. He drove a cab in student and pre student days, over 30 years ago. So this is like saying "He used to hang out around elementary schools all day long ... oh, when he was 10 years old, btw."
Bottom line, if you have any exposure to courts, you know he isnt that rare a type. There are lots of prima donnas, mild eccentrics and people whose years of experience make them dispense with protocol. Their sacrosanct position seems to encourage this sort of behavior.
I think they were grasping for anything to extend the airtime for this popular story. Im surprised they didnt complain about the janitors who cleaned out the courtroom, just to get more play for this story.
As has been observed by various, this was no routine probate court. There were 2 main parties to be heard, and 2 contradictory requests. So the judge had to decide the rights of an unmarried significant other against those of the blood family. --Which meant he had to establish that the man WAS in fact the significant other, and not merely an opportunistic fraud. I submit he HAD to play Columbo in this case. Probing and separating CHARACTER requires more than a couple of hours, unless you want hasty In and Out Burger/Judge Judy justice. Who would that have served?
Answer: I didn't see what all the fuss was about either. Those that know him say that's just the way he is, not "show-boating" as the media mostly claimed. I thought of him as very thorough (too thorough?) and compassionate for both sides. I would want him for a judge if I was to go through the same thing.

Honestly. Is anyone really surprised that its been revealed that NYC Yellow Cab drivers are nothing but->?
Crooks who ripped off Passengers? Im not surprised at all. They tried that once with me & that was enough for me to never take a Yellow Cab again even if it meant walking 100 blocks before i ever take a Yellow Cab. New Yorkers should boycott using Yellow Cabs but i know that will never happen.->
NYC Taxis Overcharged Passengers $8.3 Million, New York City Says
NEW YORK — Thousands of New York City taxi drivers overcharged passengers by more than $8.3 million over the past two years by setting their meters at a rate that was supposed to be used for trips to the suburbs, the Taxi and Limousine Commission said Friday.
At least 1.8 million trips were wrongly charged at the suburban rate, which is double the rate within city limits, the commission said.
The city has about 48,300 licensed cabbies, and data shows that 35,558 have illegally charged a rider at least once, the city said. A smaller group of drivers is responsible for the majority of overcharged trips – 3,000 cabbies were found to have doubled the meter rate more than 100 times.
The commission has referred its findings to the Department of Investigation.
"Some of these people could face serious charges," Mayor Michael Bloomberg said. "Now, how we would ever recoup the money and get it back to the individual payers, no, but we can stop the practice and we can make sure theres penalties."
Rest of the story is on this link if you want to check it out.->

Answer: Here's what both New Yorkers and visitors should know to avoid this happening to them: you can see the taxi's meter on the dashboard. When your ride starts, you'll see the word "HIRED" illuminated on the front panel, which means the driver has turned the meter on. But all the way to the left is a large numeral that identifies the fare rate that's in effect. If you're anywhere within the city limits, that should read "1". The only exceptions to that are when travelling between Manhattan and JFK airport in either direction, or to Newark Liberty airport. JFK is a flat rate charged as Rate 2, and Newark requires a $15 surcharge which is added when the meter is set on Rate 3.
What these people didn't notice was that for at least part of their rides the meter was set on rate 4. That change should only be made when the cab crosses into Nassau or Westchester counties while travelling to a destination in either county. Keep an eye on it!

Help Proofreading my Story?
I wrote a fairy tale for a school assignment (a modernized version of Beauty and the Beast), and I was wondering if someone could help me proofread it for grammatical errors/spelling mistakes, is it in third-person omniscient, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Once upon a time, in a residential neighborhood in the greater Los Angeles area, lived a man who had been extremely fortunate with his business, and
he was very rich. Richard Hilton was a music producer, and he lived in a Beverley
Hills mansion with his daughter, Paris Hilton, and her two friends Megan Fox and
Britney Spears. The youngest of the three girls, Megan, was the prettiest and most
polite. Everyday she had to hear the constant bickering between Paris and Britney
about what shoes to wear, “I want to wear the five hundred dollar shoes today
because you got to wear them yesterday”, Paris shouted. Megan grew tired of
witnessing her friends fight over materialistic items, and sat on the window ledge in
her room. Megan observed a tree’s branch swaying back and forth in the wind,
almost like an airplane gliding with the wind, “I wish I could get away from this
place”, Megan whispered. Five minutes later, Richard walked into the room where
Paris and Britney were fighting and told them that he had to fly to Beijing to take
care of some business. “I was just informed that my company has filed for
bankruptcy due to the economy, and all of the artists signed to my label have been
dropped”, Richard said furiously. Richard then informed the three girls that they
would have to move elsewhere because he could not afford to have them all in the
house. The girls felt awful, and they did not want to leave but they understood the
situation. Before Richard left, he asked the three girls what they wanted him to bring
back. “I want a Chanel purse”, Paris shouted. “I want a pair of Prada sunglasses”,
Britney demanded. Richard was perplexed as to why Megan did not shout out an
answer. “Megan, is there anything I can bring you back from my trip”, said Richard
politely. Megan responded, “I would appreciate it if you could bring me back a rose,
the rose that is said to represent strength”. Richard reflected on how Megan was fine
with just a rose, and how the other two girls wanted expensive items.
With just his jacket to button up, Richard walked out of the house. Boom. The
door slammed shut with the wind whistling through the cracks in the door. The girls
did not celebrate that Richard had left, but instead went to their own rooms to read
a book and watch television.
Richard, not knowing the area he was in,
decided to walk in. He was alert when entering the house, making sure there were
no traps set up. As he walked towards the kitchen, he spotted a note on the kitchen
table. The note read, “Please help yourself to the roses in the garden”. Richard
remembered that Megan had wanted a rose as her gift, so he decided to go into the
garden. As Richard was searching for the perfect rose, thinking about how happy
Megan will be when she receives the rose, a loud crash was heard from inside of the
house. Richard promptly turned his body around and saw a 7’6” giant crashing
through the back window and yelling, “Get out of my garden now you fool, or I will
soon turn you into a my new swimming pool”. The giant caught the man and told
him that he had to stay locked up in his cellar forever. Richard pleaded with the
giant to let him go, “Please let me go. I was only getting a rose for my daughters’
friend Megan”. The giant let Richard go, but ordered him to send Megan back to live
with him.
Once Richard safely returned home, Megan could tell that something was
wrong. “Richard, wh

Answer: Spelling and grammar look fine.
I'm not sure if you are living in the United States or in Europe, but in the United States, the comma at the end of a spoken sentence is placed before the last quotation mark (in England, it is placed after). For example, it's not this:
"Hello", he said.
but this:
"Hello," he said.
Your paragraphs need to be broken up, too. Whenever the subject changes, or someone starts to speak, or a different person speaks, you should start a new paragraph:

Call to limit taxi drivers hours , but where do you draw the line?
IN the history of driving i dont think there has ever been such an amount of tinkering with the laws on profesional driving , what the law makers forget along with the doo gooders is that driving jobs dont pay very much money like most jobs these days , as a lorry driver and coach driver licence holder i can tell you the industry is on its knees already but despite this new laws were introduced last year for coach drivers and later this year for lorry drivers to complete a cpc test existing holders by 2013/14 or kiss their jobs goodbye , ok thats fine safety first right? , but even the runners of the training are labelling it a waste of time and totally without need . i would estimate that by 2013 /14 the cost would be for those whose companies wont pay about £600 . The sort of drivers this will affect is self employed agency drivers and your humble school bus drivers , in a recession do we really need to be putting people out of work ? And now its the taxi drivers turn god knows what complicated laws will be thrown into the equasion for them , but you can bet money will be involved ! what do you think ?? IM all for safer roads but you have to reach a point where you accept there is no guarantee on our roads no matter how many laws / With regards to the new cpc laws and training for truck and bus drivers you may interested to know that you cant fail them so whats the point ? Also if you are thinking you are exempt if you already hold a cpc operators licence then you are in for a big surprise . in 2013/14 there will be utter chaos WHY? because like many new laws introduced they are very hush hush over them . I KNOW LOADS of drivers and operators who arent even aware of the laws coming into force . what do you think?
Answer: I have heard that taxi drivers get a hard time with strict MOT and licensing laws in the UK. I guess they could place tacho's in cabs if they wanted to (don't they already exist??). I'm a little fed up of bloated local councils sapping us dry for every penny we have.
I would however want to know what are the facts regarding taxi drivers and accidents. Has there been a loads of accidents due to over tired drivers? For instance, how many accidents do taxi drivers have per mile driven compared to the public and how many prosecutions have been made due to wreckless (tired) driving? If there are many accidents then it would make sense to limit hours - it is not fair if people should die (including the driver) or be injured just so someone can make a buck. However, i very much so doubt that this is the case, in which case i would not support the extra restrictions.

Moroccos Democratic Changes Fail to Appease All

*~TAXI DRIVER CONFESSIONS~*
TODAY IS MY GIRLFRIENDS BIRTHDAY. SO INSTEAD OF DRIVING MY cab on this fine Saturday night, Im escorting Tamale to her cousin Caitlins wedding.
Taxi Cab Diaries : The Last Shepherd Boy
Based on my year driving cab in Oakland. "All cabs ... shift not really giving a rats ass since I hadnt picked anyone up all night anyway. To my surprise, howsoever, I found an addressed Christmas card on the floor of the back.
Men and women welcomed, just want mature take/answers..many thanks?
In M and D for more mature views.
Im 32, separated pending divorce with a small son. Im fairly well set up and happy in the main with my lot. I have good friends, workmates and family who keep me busy (have had the odd bit of fun for physical enjoyment, but nothing Id considered taking further).
I recently noticed and aquaintance I have known for some years (a taxi driver), wed been flirting on one journey, and on another (with my son and sister present) laughing and joking while he entertained my son (who is a toddler) I thought at the end of the journey that I saw something a bit out of the ordinary in the way he looked at me. A little while later I decided I might as well ask him out for a drink - an evening which went well (but not all the way well!).
Didnt hear anything for a while, until we crossed paths and exchanged huge grins and waves( I was on foot, he was driving). A week or so after he brought my sister over. Its a well known fact within the firm that I often pay for family journeys by taking the money out to drivers, and I was surprised to notice hed parked up properly instead of waiting on the road. I knocked on the window expecting him to wind it down and head off, but he opened the door and chatted for about 10/15 mins.
He said he wanted to be sure of what he wanted after having been burned a couple of times, which to be honest I took as a brush off and joked at the time "so thats a never", he immediately came back at me that it wasnt a case of never just that he wanted to be sure before getting involved again. We continued exchanging gossip with a bit of innuendo, and Im sure he delayed leaving. We were both grinning like idiots through most of the conversation, and I said I would write to him once a month or so, until I heard further from him.
Im not waiting, so thats not the question I need answering - Im being pickier these days and hes the first man to cross my path in a while thats caught my interest and whom I feel that I could have something interesting/an affinity with. So unless someone just as interesting comes along......
What I want to know is, when a man comes out with something like that is he being straight or is it more of a gentle brush off. If not how long would it take the average man to decide whether its worth the risk (how longs a piece of string - I know - just ballparks please!).

Are you ever surprised by the complete disregard some parents have for their own children?
My niece had a friend over for dinner tonight and when it was time to send her home, I gave her mother a call to ask if she was going to come get her or if shed like me to bring her home instead. Her answer? Oh, just put her in a cab...she knows the address to tell the driver. *jaw drop* This girl is in the second grade...7 years old! I cant fathom why a parent would let their young kid ride across town in a taxi. I actually dont even know if thats allowed, but probably...
Yes, I absolutely took her home...Im distrusting of cabbies for *myself*, a 30 year old woman...no way in hell would I put a kid into one without an adult.
Answer: All the time.
Just last week, we were shopping pretty late (11ish pm) and some girl had dragged her kid out who couldn't have been more than 2 years old. Obviously the kid was tired so she was throwing a bit of a fit. So the mom started screaming at her and yanked the kid by the arm outside to the car. All while this kid was wearing a t-shirt, pants and socks. Mind you, it is winter and Canada here. So the temperature was well below freezing. And the mom was bundled up enough that she could have survived outdoors for a week.
I couldn't get my mind around that. It's winter, put a freaking coat and some boots on your kid. And don't take them shopping at 11pm if you don't have the patience for overtired meltdowns. Hell, my kid was at home in bed and my mum was hanging out at my place until we got home.

Tipping in San Diego California?
Hi,
My boyfriend and I are on a visit to San Diego California right now. Were from Canada. Dont have much experience with the U.S. We once went to NY, and....we were sort of surprised how people seem to tip for EVERYTHING there, and its not just like $3, its like $6+, otherwise youre commented negatively or glared at by the person (waiter, taxi driver, etc etc).
In Canada, tipping for everything (and tipping $6+) isnt as common. Its done commonly in a few places, like restaurants, but other than that, its only a pleasant surprise to the receiver if he/she is tipped after doing something (like helping you put your bags in the trunk of a car).
How common is tipping in San Diego, and how much is customary to give as a tip?
Sorry this is a bit of a silly question. Just we got quite a few negative comments/looks when we didnt tip where New Yorkers normally would, or as much as they would, and we dont want to make the same mistake.
We just arrived in San Diego today.
Answer: restaurants - 15 - 20%
bartenders - ~$1/drink or maybe $5 total if you sit there a while.
cab drivers - $3-$5 dollars for a medium 5-10 mile ride
hotel people - yeah, a few bucks, especially the hotel maids, i usually leave $2/day on the bed.
valet parking - $2-$3
the baggage guys at the airport - $1/bag
those tip jars on counters...almost never, that's their friggin' job.
