Answer: T=2 * PI * sqrt( L/G ) Where L is the length of the string and G is acceleration of gravity. So the period T of the pendulum is soley dependent on the length of the string and the strength of gravity. Question 5): The answer is d) because the string effectively gets longer and then shorter as the water leaks out .The string length is actually the distance between the centre of gravity of the metallic sphere and the pivot. When the sphere is full of water then the centre of gravity is at the centre of the sphere and therefore the string length is from the pivot to the centre of the sphere. With the Sphere half full of water the centre of gravity is below the centre of the sphere, i.e. further away from the pivot, making the string effectively longer and therefore increasing the period. With the sphere empty the centre of gravity returns to the centre of the sphere making the string length the same as when the sphere was full of water. Question 7): Period depends on length of string and is proportional to the square root of the length of the string. If a string is 16 times as long as as another piece of string of 1m long then from the formula above sqrt(16)=4. So the string that is 16m as long will have a period 4 times as long as that of a string 1m long, i.e. after one swing of the 16m string, the 1m string will have swung 4 times and therefore both will be back at the same position. Question 12): Here the answer lies in the fact that it is not the string length that is increasing or decreasing but you are effectively increasing the force of gravity acting on the bob ( opposite charges attract ). From the formula above if you keep L the same but make G larger then the period will decrease accordingly. The charged plate adds to the force of gravity by attracting the bob and therefore increasing the acceleration of the pendulum.
